On That Hill

Matt 5:5, 8 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.  Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

I was looking at a stunning photo taken by a man called Ken Duncan the other day.  It's a picture of the mountain where Jesus preached His famous Sermon on the Mount. 

I was shocked.  It's one thing to read about it.  But it's quite another to see the place.  It was so beautiful.  A hill covered in yellow flowers, looking out over the Sea of Galilee to the most spectacular sunrise you can ever imagine.

And on that hill He turned the world upside down. 

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."  You look at that million dollar view in that photo and you think - what an earth.
"Blessed are the pure in heart - for they shall see God."  You look at the creation in that photo and you think - what a wondrous God. Colour splashed across the sky.  Tiny yellow flowers for us to touch.

You know - it's awesome that Jesus didn't preach this stuff from heaven.  He preached it on earth.  On that hill.
