I Just Blew It
by Berni Dymet
John 13:34-35 I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
I have a wonderful teenage daughter - Melissa. I mean she's a really good kid.
But if you've ever brought up teenagers you'll know that it involves a bit of conflict from time to time. Well, the other day I managed to get in on the wrong end of something - and I over reacted and bit her head off. And when I realized what I'd done I felt terrible.
And you know what happens; deep down we hate to admit we got it wrong. But if there's something I've learned in life it's that we should keep very, very short accounts with people - I don't like being overdrawn.
So - I swallowed my pride, cuddled her, apologized and asked her to forgive me. Maybe it's just me - but I find that stuff not so easy to do.
But the words of Jesus always ring in my ears - love one another as I have loved you - by this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.
Love is a verb. It's a doing word.
