It wasn’t an easy choice: Canceling a major program because we were hearing all the cautions of a storm brewing. Our company had prepared for a special event honoring our season’s subscribers and with news of the growing storm, Edouard changed our wordings of ‘welcome’ to words of ‘sorry, we won’t be having the party.’ We checked every storm detail, prayed fervently, and regretfully made our choice to cancel. Then there was frantic telephoning to and from our guest lists. For me, a seasoned theater person, canceling a show is difficult. We will postpone to another date, re-rehearse, re-schedule and miss some who could not make the change with us, and gain some for whom this new date is more convenient, but to cancel was a difficult choice.
Of course, the storm was less than feared, of course, we could have had our program, but the better of course is that God accomplished something more important in His Eyes than our eyes could see. This was a small event compared to major hurts and disasters. I can’t dismiss woes and wants by the scotch tape of God’s Good Will, but I know for a fact that nothing gets past Him, and that if
Romans 8:28 is not true for a party date, it would not hold me in His Love when the storms are greater than that. It is not God’s causative in the disappointments, it is God’s Presence! His presence is there in the winds and the rain. His love is not withered in woes. His Sovereign assurance vows wisdom in pain and His love in the storm overflows.
