A Snapshot of Heaven, Part 3

April 19, 2024
Everyone is dying of a terminal disease.  A disease called mortality. The current death rate for this disease is 100%.  There is no cure.  And according to the Bible, we will go to one of two places - Heaven, the place where God is, or Hell, a place the Bible calls a place of torment and a place where God is not.  God has given us snapshots of heaven in the Scriptures, which creates a longing in our hearts to go there. Heaven was created for us!

Our Christian lives are all very different. Some have a Cultural Christian life; some have a Social Christian life; others have a Conditional Christian life; while others have an Unyielding or Abandoned Christian life.  The ministry and work of the Cross has achieved the same for each of these types of Christians. And the spiritual potential in life is the same for each of them too.

Good Friday. God saw this day as the pinnacle of days, the high point of human history. If God sees it this way, should we not put much of our attention on it? How do I KNOW God if for me? He spared not His own Son, but delivered him up. Even when bad things happen to me - God is for me! My past, my trauma, my bad decisions - God is for me.

"Goodbye, proud world! I'm going home; Thou art not my friend, and I am not thine." (Ralph Waldo Emerson) Luke 9:61 depicts Jesus, a short time before He knew he would be crucified in Jerusalem. He was going home. It was a tough road there, but it was the road the Father had chosen for Him. His Journey Home went through Jerusalem and all that it represented. We are all on the journey home. The difference is that we do not know when or by what means we will travel there. We must first settle in our hearts that this is not our home.

In 2 Samuel 23, as David was recounting his life, he mentioned 3 super elite soldiers and 30 elite soldiers that stood out through the years and went down in Israeli history. Let's consider the earliest days with some of these men.

When you experience great loss, great pressure or great confusion, it will directly influence your means of perception or how you think. You might ask questions like, "Why has this happened?" "What is God doing?" "Am I being punished?" "Is what I've said I believe in even real?" But faith provides a platform for hope and a perception into a reality that otherwise would remain unseen.

About Tim Kelley

Tim Kelley, at the age of 18, surrendered his life and heart to Jesus Christ. After receiving his degree in Biblical Studies, he relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida. In July of 1989 he became the senior pastor of Grace Connection Church and launched a local radio broadcast called “Grace Thoughts”, a daily radio program broadcast in the Tampa Bay region http://wtis1110.com/ and is now heard at www.oneplace.com. Pastor Kelley is now in his 33th year in public ministry here in the Tampa Bay area. He is an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics. As you may have guessed, our pastor grew up in New England in the Plymouth Mass. area. Pastor Kelley’s two greatest and heartfelt passions are teaching and preaching a clear gospel of God’s grace and its impact in our daily lives, as well as his love and compassion for people (even if they are not New England Fans).  Pastor Kelley has a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies and is currently pursuing a second Masters in Counseling, graduating in May 2013.  He is happily married to his beautiful wife of 27 years, Peggy. They have one child at home, Sadie Lynne.  Their beautiful daughter Hannah Grace, in February 2012, went home to be with the Lord, due to a firearm mishap after a church service. Pastor Kelley and Peggy have started the Hannah Grace Foundation in memory of their daughter, which raises funds for the housing, care and education of children and young adults, here locally in the Tampa Bay region, throughout America as well as the third world.
