This week’s program topic is tree stand safety, as 1 out of 3 hunters who hunt on elevated platforms will have some type of an accident in their lifetime. Keith Jones from Summit Tree Stands shares with Gerry about the evolution of the harness systems that keep hunters safe and alive in the midst of their recreation. The topic also reflects on getting in and out of the tree stand, where most accidents happen, and the issue of blood pooling in case one does fall and has to hang from their harness until help arrives.

This week’s interview is a visit with Ray Howell. Ray talks about how his dad walked out on his family when he was only 5 years old. He describes the anguish and difficulty of the situation as a small boy, and how it impacted him negatively and he began to get into trouble. Ray shares how his life was turned around because of a relationship with Jesus Christ in later years. Now this extreme archer, record-holding and drug-free weight lifter reaches out to kids who were like him, after selling his multi-million dollar business and starting Kicking Bear.

This week’s interview takes place in Ontario, Canada at the Rushing Wind Retreat Center. Gerry interviews Todd Tabat, who is the owner of Atikwa Lake Lodge, which is only a 5-minute flight by float plane from Rushing Wind. Todd shares about the fishery of Atikwa Lake and how the number one catch there is the lake trout. Additionally, very large northern pike, walleye and muskie can be hauled in. God opened the door for Todd and his wife, Susie, to buy the facility after he had experienced a very serious accident at the business he owned in Wisconsin. Todd also shares about the many years he and his wife ministered in northern Canada teaching Bible classes to children in several Indian villages each year.

Gerry’s visit which usually happens annually at the Lindner Media production studio/office will certainly sadden, and perhaps anger, the listeners on this week’s program. Ron Lindner shares with Gerry how he is seeing incredible changes in the 50-plus years he has been involved in the fishing industry. Ron also talks about how the sale of the Versus television network to NBC Sports caused them some incredible last-minute scrambling at Lindner Media as they were forced to remove anything that reflected their relationship with the Creator Jesus Christ!

The Trophies of Grace Whitetail Deer Hunt is the topic of this week’s program as Gerry interviews Mike Peters about The Lord of the Harvest Archery Club. Mike shares about the founding of Christian Bowhunters of America by David Roose, and how the local chapter, The Lord of the Harvest Archery Club, was launched, as well. The club’s annual hunt in southeast Ohio will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this late October/early November, and as always the hope is to see men, women, and children come to Christ.

This week’s program is an interview with an old friend who has been on the program a number of times, Dr. Tom Rakow and his wife Beth, who agreed to the interview for the first time. This is the story of the “Bear Tooth Pastor” when this family was just getting started and Tom was just beginning his ministry as a pastor. Tom and Beth share about their financial struggles due to Tom’s school bills, Beth’s treatment for cancer, and raising a young family and yet God always provided for their needs – including the tooth of a bear just when they needed it!

Monte Browning, for a period of time, held the world’s record for the largest Alaskan brown bear ever killed. Monte shot this big animal with his long bow at only 10 paces away as it passed him. He believes and shares with the youngsters in his Sunday School class that this experience was not as frightening as the experience most Christians have about saying the blessing over their food in public restaurants. He tells the story of how God got a hold of him on another bear hunt, and how he was challenged by the Holy Spirit to become a reader and a doer of God’s Word.

An overview of the years that God’s Great Outdoors has been doing their Family Fun Fossil Hunts is how Dr. John Whitmore begins sharing in this interview. John and Gerry discuss this August event that occurs each year in Ohio, a little over an hour from The Creation Museum in the Cincinnati area. John shares about the fossils that are everywhere, and the fact that attendees of the hunt can keep what they find of these once ocean-dwelling animals.

The topic of starting with a large fortune, then getting out quick to have a small fortune, is shared by Hank Parker, Jr., relating his years in Nascar. Hank Jr. talks about growing up with a dad who loved to hunt and was also a professional bass fisherman, which developed a real love for the outdoors in his own life. Besides the outdoor TV program that the family produces, Hank Parker 3D, Hank Jr. and his wife have started an outdoor outreach ministry, Outdoor Connections, that builds relationships with people in their community.

This week’s interview starts off with a visit in Hagerstown, Maryland, as Gerry hooks up with Rick Wilson, the founder of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. Rick tells of his early years in archery, and how the contacts he made in those days in the industry became major helpers of the ministry when it got started. Rick tells the story of how he came across a poor woman who was loading a deer into her car to feed her family. The second interview takes place 45 minutes away at Needmore Bible Church with Mike Stoner . Mike shares how his men’s group has not just been for those in the church, but was designed to reach out to all men and boys in this rural community.

Ex-Philadelphia Eagles football player, Rich Garza, is the guest visiting with Gerry. He is in the middle of a speaking blitz to middle school and high school students, as well as detention center inmates in Gerry’s home area of Ohio. Rich is just one of the pros from Sports World, a ministry that gets into school systems, where these men share their testimonies with those who attend. Rich talks about the fact that his life-long dream of becoming a pro football player, having been accomplished, revealed that it could not satisfy the God-shaped hole we all have and try to fill with something else. In his case, it included drugs and alcohol until he gave his life to Jesus Christ.
