Dr. John Whitmore, who teaches geology and paleontology at Cedarville University, is this week’s guest. John shares with the listeners how he got involved as a young man running around the woods of Ohio, collecting rocks, arrowheads and fossils. John is considered to be the world’s leading authority on fossilized fish, and he discusses how he did his research in this area of expertise. Gerry & John talk about the annual fossil hunt done every year near the Creation Museum that sees families attend from many different states. The fossils are everywhere, and the attendees get to keep what they find.

This week’s interview is with Dr. Richard Swenson about his book, More Than Meets the Eye. Dr. Swenson taught surgery at the University of Madison Wisconsin and his minor is in physics. He discusses how complex we are, starting from the subatomic particle level, molecules, cells and details of how the eyes and ears work. All this evidence along with information that he shares about our solar system and universe points to the fact that we had to have had an intelligent designer.

Captain Dan Keating shares his life story with Gerry, as the two motor in after a fine day of fishing on Lake Michigan. Dan tells about how he rebelled against God and his family values; and what took place that eventually brought him to pray, asking Jesus to be his Savior. This story includes becoming a charter captain on Lake Michigan, and writing a book about salmon fishing. From that book he did a DVD on fishing, which included his testimony and eventually wrote the book, Angling Life, subtitled "A Fisherman Reflects on Success, Failure, and the Ultimate Catch."

The founder and president of the Christian Deer Hunters Association, Dr. Tom Rakow, shares with Gerry about his testimony as the two visit together in Silver Lake, Minnesota. Tom tells the story of how he became a law breaker as a young boy when he shot his first deer out-of-season. This snowballed as he continued to do not only the poaching, but became what was considered an underage and teenage alcoholic. This story includes the death of several loved ones, and his vow at his older brother’s funeral to never love anyone again. Yet, as his life spiraled out of control, God had a plan and Tom prayed to receive Christ. He ministers full-time today through outdoor ministry, and as a pastor in Minnesota.

Craig and Louise Johnson share how they came to Christ, and the struggles that their marriage encountered, when Craig first made this decision to receive Jesus. Louise talks about the factors that caused her to seriously look at the transformation in her husband’s life, and some of the steps that brought her to making her own decision for Christ. Today the couple is involved in full-time outdoor ministry, as it was outdoor ministry that brought Craig to Christ first, then Louise, and many others in their life’s journey.

The owners of Three Rivers Archery, Dale and Sandi Karch, are the guests on this week’s program. They share how they got started in traditional archery and opened a small shop there in Wisconsin. Dale started to build Tomahawk bows; his recurves are one of the best-selling bows today. When they approached Three Rivers Archery about putting the Tomahawk in the catalogue, they informed them that if they wanted them in, they would have to buy the company because it was for sale. God had been preparing them for this in their archery journey as you will certainly hear with this interview.

The musical talent and blessing of the ministry of Steve & Annie Chapman is reflected in this week’s interview, as Gerry visits with Steve. There is sure to be a laugh or two as they get together. Steve discusses how he got involved in the outdoors despite a dad who had no desire, yet one man in the church began to mentor him as a youngster. Steve talks about how that passion has grown, has been passed on to his two children, son-in-law and one day for sure, will be part of the lives of his grandchildren, as soon as, they reach the proper age for outdoor activities. Certainly the discussion of relationships with family and others is one of the topics that is addressed .

Discussing his early years in life and growing up in the mountains of North Carolina and  following his dad through the woods is how Dave Battle begins this interview. Remembering the other men who also were instrumental in his life and how one individual on a gravel mountain road impressed him to be more active in his relationship with Jesus Christ, because he had his Bible with him on the seat of his work truck. These days Dave is a wildlife biologist in Alaska and as he shares he is still learning about God’s creation every day.

Gerry hooks up with Willie Robertson at the Archery Trade Association Show. Willie’s dad, Phil, is known as the Duck Commander and has become one of the most well-known professionals in the outdoor arena. Willie shares about his dad and the early years of his life, when he was not a Christian, and just how bad he really was! After coming to Christ due, to a pastor visiting him in a bar, Phil began producing his duck call,s which became a family business that has turned into a duck hunting dynasty.

Freelance outdoor writer and wildlife/outdoor recreation photographer, Bill Winkie, is this week’s guest. Gerry visits Bill at his home and office in the state of Iowa where Bill does much of his research in relationship to whitetail deer management. Bill shares how he has worked on his property and with surrounding land owners to produce monster bucks. He also shares how he came to Christ because of a college teacher taking the risk of sharing the Lord Jesus Christ with him.

Dwight Schuh, retired editor of Bowhunter Magazine, discusses how he maintains his physical abilities in the senior citizen years of his life. Besides proper eating and exercising every day, he challenges himself by continuing to pursue big game with the bow and arrow in difficult terrain across the country. More important, Dwight discusses spiritual discernment and discipline when it comes to God’s word, the Bible. He reflects on both mistakes he has made as a hunter and those made in everyday life, showing that our goal as Christians should be to move past those mistakes and towards the mark set before us by Christ Jesus.

About Dean Hulce

Dean Hulce was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where he spent every weekend in the woods or on the water with family and friends.  After graduation he married his highschool sweetheart Linda.  They have two boys and 5 grandchildren. 

Dean has written for several hunting and fishing magazines over the last 25 years. He has guided  hunters and fisherman as well as run hunting fishing camps from South Texas to Alaska and many states and provinces in between.  In the last 10 years Dean has written a daily devotional that goes out to thousands each day. He had published 5 devotional books, using hunting stories to bring a message to people.  He has traveled across the USA speaking to groups, spreading the gospel through outdoor experiences.
