The World Celebrates Christmas

December 25, 2009
Family Celebrations
What does it mean when the world celebrates Christmas? Kevin Swanson points out how Christmas both demonstrates the shallowness and the failure of the Christian faith, and at the same time shows the worldwide reputation of a Savior who came to save us. But what did He come to save us from? For some reason, this message always seems to dissipate in the modern "Christmas" story of babies, mangers, angels, and shepherds.
But what should our families celebrate, if celebrations and remembrances are important in the raising of our children? Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner talk to celebrations and traditions in their families.

Forging Chains in DC In the words of Patrick Henry, "It is when people forget God, that tyrants forge their chains." So our Senate representatives are busy forging chains not unlike those links formed in the establishment of public schools, social security, and other socialist projects. America is taking one giant step towards total socialism tonight, as our Senators prepare to give us a gift of mandatory health insurance, huge tax increases, more government debt, and total government control of healthcare. Yet God is faithful. One tiny island of freedom remains. Kevin Swanson speaks of tyranny, a government-sponsored kidnapping of a homeschooled child in Sweden, violence against Christians, and the wonderful, blessed freedom that comes by Jesus Christ, on this broadcast.

The Texas Parental Rights Restoration Act The nuclear family is disintegrating right in front of us. But there are still a few stalwarts, hoping to salvage something of parental rights and family freedoms out of the last vestiges of western civilization. Tim Lambert has been fighting the good fight in Texas for over 15 years, and he talks about his latest effort, the Texas Parental Rights Restoration Act on this segment of Generations. What to do, when grandparents disagree with the faith and education choices of their children and grandchildren.

Germany vs. China In Germany, they take your children away from you. In China, they take you away. Which is worse? Kevin Swanson compares the persecution in places like America and Germany with China, and then encourages all believers to bear the burdens of those who are whipped, beaten, imprison, burned, and tortured for their faith in Christ. He gives several practical ways families can do this during the materialistic celebrations of the present season.

78% of American girls are unhappy with their bodies by age 17. So what's missing in this picture? Fathers perhaps? Kevin Swanson suggests that there are systemic problems in the raising of teenage girls that will result in an almost total breakdown in the raising of these girls. These girls are being raised with the wrong value system, the wrong agendas, the wrong education, the wrong goals in mind, and the wrong social setting. To attempt to fix it with duct tape is an exercise in futility. Learn to raise daughters in God's order of things, and they will enjoy his blessings, great fulfillment in life, not to mention clear direction and purpose.

Many people are confused about the person and work of the Holy Spirit and His critical role in the raising of children. Is it gifts or gift? Are some gifts charismatic and others lackluster? What about talents and fruits and what is their purpose? Dave Buehner speaks with Richard Gaffin Jr, author of the Perspectives on Pentecost, about the best gift one can receive this season, the Holy Spirit, and how one can facilitate His work especially in the area of child discipleship. It is the difference between raising smart proud sinners or disciples of Christ that serve in meekness and fear.

"All things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called..." is a promise made by the one who is absolutely faithful. But does that include conflicts? Dave Buehner speaks with Ken Sande of Peacemaker Ministries, about the Christians' calling as peacemakers and the opportunity in every conflict for the grace of God to abound.

Paul writes that professing to wise they became fools. A demonstration of this can be seen at the summit on global climate change which is being derailed not just by science but, especally greed, ideology and politics. Likewise the worldly wisdom from the advocates of forced recycling who would save the Earth that they worship yet are doing more harm to the environment than good. Guest host Dave Buehner answers the fool in his folly about climate and trash.

Should We Sign It? 250,000+ Christians, Catholics, etc. have signed the Manhattan Declaration thus far, a statement put together by conservatives to address the problems of abortion, homosexual, polyamory, and attacks on religious liberty. Kevin Swanson talks to the pros and cons of the document, but then asks the questions, "Have they addressed the fundamental issues, and what will all of this accomplish for us?"

A Net Sum Faith Yes, 40% of children are born without fathers up from 6% in 1960, and 95% of Americans confess to pre-marital sex. But the good news? Church attendance is as high as ever! Much of what is put forward as church and praise and worship and religiosity is a waste of time at best, and at worst, a stink to high heaven. What's the net sum that God is looking for in our lives, our worship, and our churches? How would you measure the effectiveness of a church, of a faith? Here, Chris Ortiz from Chalcedon.edu talks takes aim at the Dualism that is killing the evangelical and reformed churches in America. Is it time to rebuild the Christian faith from the bottom up?

Economic Readjustment We don't do windows, and we don't do the future. But we do work our Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C, while trusting God for the outcome. With inevitable economic readjustments coming within the next generation, how do we prepare our children for these adjustments and how do we make it through the transition? These important questions are addressed with Doug Tjaden, author of "Traditions of Men," in a sensible and careful way on this edition of Generations.
