America is Rejecting Public Schools

March 15, 2010
Glenn Beck: "Get Your Kids Out!"
There are far more Americans who believe public schools are the worst form of education than believe home education is the worst form. Confidence in the schools is falling fast, and so is the funding. Half of Kansas City schools will be shuttered in the next few weeks. And now, Fox News commentator, Glenn Beck is calling for parents to "Get your kids out!"
But what about the goal of all educational endeavors – college? California public universities have increased fees by 3X since 1999, and now graduates are not getting jobs, per a recent WSJ article! If there was ever a time to think out of the box, THIS IS IT. Instead of graduating with $40,000 in college debts, what about studying 120 books and getting mentored into a line of business? Killer ideas on this edition of Generations!

Achieving Critical Mass Among a Committed Minority The problem with freedom is that you have to expend effort to maintain it. In the back and forth, political seesaw that is characteristic of democratic systems, occasionally those who appreciate freedom may take advantage of some of the momentum against burgeoning government. Kevin Swanson interviews Rein Gilstrom on the Precinct Solution. Could a couple hundred thousand people make the difference, if they were a little motivated to get involved in preserving American freedoms? Could we ever achieve a critical mass among a dedicated minority of those who value freedom enough to do something about it?

Textbook Wars In the 1920s, Christians raised a stink about the foul doctrines of Eugenics and white race supremacy contained in public school high school textbooks, and the ACLU struck back hard at the Scopes trial. Now eighty years later, Christians are still not all that happy with the godless science textbooks, featuring pure materialism found in most public schools. Over the weekend, Associated Press takes on a small Christian publishing ministry called Apologia for their worldview perspective on biblical creationism in a short news piece. Here Kevin Swanson interviews Apologia President, Davis Carmen on what it takes to provide top quality, academically-superior science textbooks, while retaining a solid worldview footing.

The Use of Psychotropic Drugs on Children The use of Psychotropic drugs on boys has increased by a factor of 20X since 1990. The reasons are obvious. Society is in chaos and the family has almost completely disintegrated. We understand why THEY have to use psychotropic drugs. But what about US? This question is a real and difficult question for some families. Without trivializing the issue, Kevin Swanson takes on this controversial issue with an important question – Which would you RATHER do, if you had a choice? Disciple them or drug them?

Honor to Whom Honor is Due A Larimer County sheriff in Colorado commits to defending gun-toting college kids on the CSU campus, and we say, “Good for him!” We also answer the question, “What would Jesus carry.” But what about the census? What's with the advancing tyranny and the ever-advancing imposition on the privacy of American families? Kevin Swanson gives a biblical view of the census here, discusses the legal issues, and suggests a Christian approach to handling tyranny.

The Wall Street Journal asks if the Protestant Reformation is officially over, and Al Mohler wades in on the conversation. Don't Try This at Home! A Delaware Pediatrician accused of 471 cases of abuse? Teachers convicted of abusing children right and left. . . Sports stars turn out to be painfully human after all. Is trust in professionals waning? And what sort of trust should Christians put in doctors and state-certified bureaucrats? For 100 years, we were told to trust these professionals, and “Don't try this at home!” Now, we're wondering if we should have moderated our enthusiasm for professionalism. Kevin Swanson addresses this issue of trust, and suggests a biblical approach to medicine and this matter of “trusting doctors.”

Getting Good and Meek The 20th century was the century where feminists worked hard to get their girls on to the Navy subs. It was a 150 year project, and finally came to fruition in the year 2010. Nevertheless, the Platonic vision could never have been accomplished without the gymnasium. Between 1900 and 2010, women have participated in the Olympics at an increasingly higher percentage, and most of them will never have children. Kevin Swanson doesn't give you all the answers, but boy, he has some great questions every parent should consider on this edition of Generations.

Evil Always Comes and Goes What ever happened to forced sterilizations in Indiana, upheld by a hair-brained Supreme Court decision in 1927? What about the supremacy of the white race doctrine taught in American public high school classrooms in 1925? Feeding Christians to lions? What ever happened to homosexual indoctrination in the sex ed classes way back in the year 2010? Evolution? Socialism? Abortion? Various of evils always come and go, especially when empires collapse. But what do Christians do with the unfruitful works of darkness? Number 1 - they don't sit their children in public school classrooms to pick up an education in statist thinking that does not conform itself to the fear of God. Kevin Swanson recommends a Christian education for Christians on this edition of Generations. He presents the Christian classics, and recommends that Christians focus on the Christian classics if they really want their children to have a Christian education.
