Theme: Take Time to Know God’s Character

Our Awesome God

Scripture: Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of His might and because He is strong in power, not one is missing. (Isaiah 40:26 ESV).

Play: Look up at the night sky and take in its wonder. Then guess how many stars are shining above. Point out the North Star or any groups of stars or constellations you know, such as the Big Dipper, Orion or the Northern Cross. See if you find new patterns or designs.

Talk: Without a telescope, people can see up to a few hundred stars in a city and around 5,000 in a rural or nature-only area. With a telescope, we can see millions of stars, but not even astronomers can count all the stars in the universe. These lights in the night sky, though, are a constant reminder of God’s greatness. In Isaiah 40:26, we learn that God created the stars and calls each one by name. Just think, God is powerful enough to have created the heavens but tender enough to know the stars individually. In the same way, God is not only our Creator but also our Father, and He knows each one of us by name, too. What other things in creation help you understand God’s power? What things show His tenderness?

Pray: Thank God for His ability to create more stars than we can see, while still knowing about each one.
