Why the Son Became One of Us Part 1

January 25, 2011
Pastor Mike Fabarez is going verse by verse through Hebrews, and today our Focal Point is the cost of Christ’s coming. Our aim is to gain a greater appreciation for the one who left the riches of heaven to become one of us. We celebrate that at Christmas time, but do we really understand the costs and benefits of the incarnation? Some are under the illusion that He merely came to make life a little better for us, or save us from our problems. Pastor Mike shows us why Jesus really came.

There’s no shortage of pain, suffering and injustice in our world today, but how should the Christian respond to it all? Last time Mike Fabarez explored the problem with our world today. He showed us that God has chosen to delegate His authority right now. Those He has delegated it to are sinful, and it’s because of that sin that we find injustice and suffering. The story doesn’t end there though. We’re about to see that God will one day take back the authority He has delegated, and that brings a wondeful hope with it!

Obviously injustice exists in our world today, and good people suffer. That leads some to wonder why God would allow all of this, and others to deny His existence because of it.   Perhaps your home-life is a real mess, or your wonderful neighbor down the street has suffered a life-altering catastrophe. Pastor Mike Fabarez says it’s important to look forward without giving up.

Can you think of an unbelieving friend or family member that you’ve gone round and round with about the Gospel and they find it hard to buy into and want proof?  That’s exactly what we’ll offer you today from Hebrews chapter two. If we’re willing to do our homework, we’ll discover it really is true.  If there’s any lingering doubts in your mind, Mike Fabarez says rethink the apostles authority, and research the documents.  There’s only one conclusion we can reach if we do.

I think it’s safe to say all of us have our doubts, and some really struggle with doubts over God’s Word and His message.  Today we turn to Hebrews two and ask ourselves, “Is God’s message true?”  I think you’ll find this very helpful for those times when doubt creeps into your mind, or is present for someone else you know.

Think for a moment what things would be like here in the States if we had laws and rules, but nobody enforced them!  There would be utter chaos no doubt right!  Today on Focal Point Pastor Mike Fabarez emphasizes the goodness and justice of God, seen through His discipline.  God loves us very much, and He’s perfect in every way.  He not only makes the rules, but enforces them too, and on top of it all makes a way for us to be forgiven.   We can’t afford to miss that!

As christian parents we want what’s best for our kids.  We want to protect them from harm, and point them to the Lord’s will and ways.  They don’t always appreciate that do they?  Especially when we lay down a rule they don’t agree with, or discipline them for a wrong action.  God disciplines those He loves too.  But like a young child, we sometimes miss His good intentions, or don’t appreciate it.  But it’s for our good!

As we turn back to Hebrews two today, we encounter a few prayer pointers. It’s so easy for us to be consumed with ourselves, and that’s often reflected in our prayer time. If you look back on your prayer life, how much of it is focused on others and God, and how much on ourselves? If you’re at all like most, it’s way out of balance. So maybe today, some refocusing is needed? Before we address that issue, Mike wants to encourage us to find a good time and place to pray.

God loves to spend time together with you. He desperately wants to hear from us, but few of us talk to Him as we should. What would God say about your prayer life? Keep that heart-searching question in mind as you turn to Hebrews two. Today Mike Fabarez begins a three part series on Prayer, which he’s called, “Don’t Miss it.” Take my word for it, you won’t want to miss it!  Reason being, is God is wanting to shower us with tremendous blessings and benefits if we would just talk to Him!

God gave us His one and only son, He gives us life, blessings beyond measure, grace we don’t deserve, and everything we need for life and godliness. Wouldn’t you like to give Him something back in return?  Pastor Mike Fabarez will offer up a few gift ideas today on Focal Point. The gift catalog you might say is in Hebrews one, and that’s where we’re headed today, continuing our series on the “Supremacy of Christ!” When we left you yesterday, we were talking about how our faith can really bless God’s heart. It’s a fabulous gift to give God, for without it, it’s impossible to please Him. Let’s see what else is on God’s wish list, and He’d like to have from us.

Looking back on your Christmas shopping experience, did you have someone on your list that was really hard to buy for? God created everything, lacks nothing, and can have anything He so desires. What in the world could we possibly give to Him with that in mind? Rather than search the internet or head to the Mall, turn to Hebrews one for a great gift idea. Pastor Mike Fabarez is here now to show us what to give a King.
