The average American has more than three Bibles in their home.  But do those copies of Scripture ever make it off the shelf?  Or do they just stay there collecting dust?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez describes the power of God’s Word to influence our lives.  But it’s only possible if we take the time to open it up and read what it says!

When the well-known missionary, Dr. David Livingstone, began his trek across Africa, he brought along 73 books.  But as his party hiked the 300 miles, fatigue set in, and Livingstone tossed his books away, one by one … until he had only one volume left—his Bible.  It was the one book he’d never part with.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez describes the immeasurable value of God’s Word, and why we need to keep Scripture close.

Landmarks will often help you navigate unfamiliar places.  By spotting the correct signposts along the way, you know you’re headed in the right direction. On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez encourages us to be on the lookout for spiritual signposts.  They are the biblical markers that let us know that we’re on the straight and narrow path … and headed towards God’s eternal rest.

The Word of God is capable of addressing the issues closest to our hearts.  And one of those questions could be, Am I Really a Christian?  Maybe you prayed a prayer once or responded to an altar call.  But does the Bible offer any evidence that can prove whether we’re still in the faith?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez looks at the indicators of authentic salvation.

There’s a lot of uncertainty when people talk about eternity.  They might be unsure of their standing with God because they don’t know if the good they’ve accomplished outweighs the bad they’ve done.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez dismantles the notion that our rescue is the result of our own effort!  Hebrews, chapter 4 describes salvation not as the product of hard work, but the acceptance of a generous gift.

We’re currently in a verse-by-verse study of the book of Hebrews … a New Testament letter that is brimming with Old Testament illustrations.  We may be tempted to simply skip over these ancient allusions.  But when we understand these references to the past, we can better grasp the future we have in Jesus!

In order to connect with God, the people of Israel had to follow certain ceremonial laws.  These regulations dictated what the people could wear, where they went, what they could eat, and much more.  But do the followers of Jesus have to live under the same requirements?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez turns to the book of Hebrews to explain why these ceremonies were only shadows, while Jesus is the real deal!

A lot of us spend Monday through Friday hard at work.  But at the end of the week are two days dedicated to relaxing.  In fact, many of us are already looking forward to the weekend!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says God has a “heavenly” weekend prepared for us as well.  And He wants to make sure, after our work in this life, we don’t miss the rest promised in the next.
