The Hallmark of the Spiritually Prepared, Part 3

July 17, 2014
Imagine if all your debts were cancelled in a single moment.  Your house, your car, your credit card—all paid.  The sense of relief, happiness and gratitude you’d feel once your debt was erased would be overwhelming.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that Jesus can wipe out our spiritual deficit … but first we have to admit we’re in debt!  It’s The Hallmark of the Spiritually Prepared.

For thousands of years, prophets, teachers and preachers said, the Messiah is coming!  Yet, when Jesus arrived there were a lot of people who caught totally unaware!  They had ample time to prepare, but they still weren’t ready to receive Jesus.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez helps us not make the same mistake.  Jesus offers everyone an opportunity to find forgiveness and be right with God.  But are we ready to receive that message?

The motto of the Boy Scouts is “Be Prepared.”  It’s a call to live in a state of willing readiness.  It’s a handy motto for Christians as well.  Even though we don’t know the day or time, Jesus is coming back.  Are we ready for His arrival?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez studies how to live in a state of readiness.  We definitely don’t want to be caught off guard when we meet the King!

We may ask our children to take out the trash, do their homework, or make their bed.  But instead of hearing “okay” … we might hear, “not yet”, “I can’t” or “Can it wait?”  The excuses can drive a mom and dad crazy!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez looks at some of the reasons we may give in order to ignore God’s call.  When God says “do” … do we?

When Jesus arrived on earth, He came bearing an exciting invitation. He said, “Come, follow me.”  Yet, many of the responses Jesus heard to His amazing offer ranged from, “I can’t”, to, “I’m too busy", to, “maybe later.”  It’s the same reactions people have to Jesus even today. On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez examines a few of the reasons some people give for not wanting to follow Jesus. Are they valid?

If you’re planning to leave on vacation tomorrow, it’s a good idea to start preparing today. By putting off packing the suitcases until the last minute, you’re bound to forget the sunscreen, your passport, or even your plane ticket! On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says the Kingdom of God is right around the corner. But have we spent our time planning…or procrastinating?

What does the ideal pastor look like? What qualities does he possess? On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez answers those questions by pointing us to a rather unconventional missionary. John the Baptist didn’t quite fit the stereotypical mold of a popular preacher. But according to Jesus, he was the best there ever was! So let’s look at John the Baptist to see how we should be sharing God’s Word to a world who desperately needs to hear it.

His choice of clothing was odd and his dietary habits were strange, but it was John the Baptist’s preaching that really set him apart! If you want to build a house, you’d probably consult a contractor, not an accountant.  But if you want your taxes filed, it’s a good idea to go to an accountant and not a plumber.  If we’re looking for wisdom on following Jesus, we need to look to the experts for guidance.  Not just anyone will do.
