The Big Questions Part 3 - Was Jesus More Than Just Another Good Teacher?

August 9, 2010
We’re exploring answers to Christianity’s most important questions right now, in a series we’ve labeled, “The Big Questions!” The question before us today, remains, “Who is Jesus?” We’ll personalize that while we’re at it, “Who is Jesus to you?” Pastor Mike says we need to understand why God became one of us, if we’re going to answer that.

Back in 1929 and 1930, Robert Eisler published two volumes entitled “Jesus the King Who Did Not Reign.” He argued that Jesus was a revolutionary whose campaign against Rome failed. Throughout history, people have held a variety of opinions regarding who Jesus is, and maybe you have one of your own. We pose the question today on Focal Point, “Was Jesus More Than Just Another Good Teacher?” Today we enter part three in our series on “The Big Questions,” by looking at one of the biggest of them all.

As Christians we believe that the Bible was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by over 40 different authors. Is what we have today an accurate reflection of what was originally written? We’ll show you why the Bible is reliable, today on Focal Point. Currently, we’re in a fascinating series formed around what Pastor Mike calls "The Big Questions." Today’s question for us to consider is, “What’s So Special About the Bible?”

Today, Pastor Mike returns to his "Big Questions" series. Essentially, we’re pondering over, exploring, and seeking answers to some of life’s big questions. Here’s one for you: Is the Bible actually the Word of God, and if so, how can we be sure? Find out together with us.

Contrary to what many think, Christianity isn’t dumb! What the Bible has to say about how we got here, who’s in charge, and where we’re going, actually makes a lot of sense. There’s a rational connection between what we believe and why we believe it. Just yesterday we began Mike’s series called, “The Big Questions,” and we’ll continue it today. Through this series we’re addressing critically important questions that deserve forthright and cogent answers. The first question before us is, “How can we be sure there is a God?”

Today we begin an interesting series formed around some big questions, perhaps some you’re dealing with even as we speak. Over the course of this series we’ll consider if Jesus was more than just another good teacher. Pastor Mike will then have us look into the question, “Is Christianity the only way?" Also consider with us, "If God is so good, why’s the world so bad?” First up though, is a question I’m sure we’ve each at the very least thought about or had someone pose to us: “How can we be sure there is a God?”

Turn on the news today, and it’s not hard to see why people by and large are freaking out and unsettled. However, the Christian shouldn’t react that way. In the midst of the mess, we can be confident and have a bold assurance about our relationship with God. Nothing can threaten or change that, and that’s good reason to be grateful. Today on Focal Point, we draw our series, “When Life is Tough” to a close. Romans eight, and verses 35-39 has been described as an anchor for our souls and it’s easy to see why. It has just what we need to hear, for days like these.

How do you know that God loves you and always will? How do you know that no matter what kind of sneaky, underhanded scheme Satan comes up with to attack you, God will be there for you? How do you know that no matter how badly you blow it, God will forgive you and welcome you back with open arms? Because He said so! Today we bring you another study from Romans chapter eight, as we look at verses 35 through 39. Here Paul writes eloquently and powerfully about what we have in Christ Jesus.

Have some problems in your life? Maybe you’re tempted to think God has forgotten about you, abandoned you, or He’s punishing you for some reason? Here’s a truth to cling to in this world of uncertainty: Nothing can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. That should put our hearts at rest. With that said, we need to stress that this only applies to the Christian. Today on Focal Point, pastor Mike Fabarez highlights the last few verses of Romans eight, and they are very encouraging. On this Wednesday, we spotlight an invariable love in a changing world.

The Oil Spill in the Gulf, tension in foreign lands, financial difficulty, an illness, or death. I could go on and on citing examples of things that Satan will use to unsettle our hearts. Is there anything we can do when enemies threaten you and I like this? I’m glad to say there is, and today on Focal Point, we’ll see the real need to be fearless as Christians. We have a God that is not only for us, but He’s with us. And that’s all we need to know, to extinguish any worry or fear in our hearts. Pastor Mike Fabarez takes us back to Romans eight.

We all go through difficult times, and isn’t it a comfort when someone comes along with just the right word at just the right time? Today we’re going to visit Romans eight, and it has just what we need to hear when life is tough. God is with us, and God is for us! It doesn’t get any better than that! Pastor Mike Fabarez says when needs arise on the heals of adversity, we can be confident.
