Staying in Step Part 2a - Adapting Your Style for a Grand Performance

October 25, 2010
A good number of our marital struggles and problems can be traced back to selfishness and an unwillingness to sacrifice. Maybe it’s a purchase you want to make, your spouse isn’t in favor, and so a fight develops. With that in mind, today’s Focal Point we believe is going to be especially helpful for you and your marriage. Today Pastor Mike Fabarez will show us the real value of biblical compromise.

It doesn’t take long for us to realize that our spouse doesn’t do everything the same as we do. Maybe week one of the marriage? That’s actually alright and good. Today on Focal Point, Pastor Mike Fabarez will have us shoot for unity and harmony, rather than fight and divide as so many do when differences pop up. This is just part of our series, “Staying in Step.”

Those of you who are married could probably cite quite a few differences you and your spouse have. We all do. But today we want you to think about what you have in common. Pastor Mike says it’s vitally important that we don’t allow anything to separate those commonalities. We’ll take you to a number of Scriptures to emphasize that today on Focal Point.

Would you like to have a better marriage? I would hope if you’re married, you’d answer with an emphatic "Yes!" In case you need a little encouragement, pastor Mike Fabarez will have us think for a minute or two about why we should want that. Here on our Wednesday Focal Point, we’re excited to introduce a new series we’ll refer to as, “Staying in Step.” It was recorded at a recent marriage retreat. And as we’ll learn today, a good reason to stay in step is because we should want to bring glory to God.

Today marks the end of our five part series called, “How to Get Eternal Life.” Here at the end of our series, we’re considering if it really is worth it to follow Christ and live for Him. Today, Mike will encourage us to care less about this life, and invest more in the next life. It will become apparent why that’s the way to go as the study develops. And you’ll be happy to know, it is well worth it!

God by His grace has given many of us eternal life, and today we’re going to spend some time exploring what’s in store for us in heaven! Some of you may have a picture of heaven in your minds that is far from the truth. Will we be floating on a cloud, strumming harps all day? Well not exactly. Once we come to really understand what it’s all about, it will serve to motivate us toward holy and godly living.

Previously on Focal Point, Pastor Mike has shown us how we get eternal life. It’s by grace, through repentance and faith. Today we offer up the question, “Is it really worth it to become a Christian?” It won’t take us long to see that the answer is, “Absolutely yes!” It’s exciting to study about what God has prepared for those that follow Him, and that’s what we’re about to do. We should be motivated by eternal life, and Mike will show us why.

There you are driving along, thinking you’re on the right road to your destination. Then down the road a bit, you see a sign, and realize you had it all wrong! I think we’ve all been there, and it’s also a common experience in the spiritual realm. Many think they’re on the highway to heaven, but they really aren’t. Maybe today’s Focal Point will signal to you that you really aren’t heading in the right direction. As we’re about to see today, many really haven’t embraced the true Gospel.

How do we get eternal life? That’s the question we’ve framed our present series around. As we’ll see today, repentance is a big part of the answer to that question. So it’s important to understand what it is, and if we’ve done it. Sadly repentance is rarely preached, and few understand what it truly is. The Rich Young Ruler wasn’t willing to repent from his sins, and because of that, the door to eternal life didn’t open to him. He didn’t turn from his path to God’s. Will you?
October 13, 2010
Many so-called Gospel presentations and even tracts do not include "biblical repentance.” People are led to believe that as long as they walked an aisle, prayed a prayer, they’re right with God. You look at their lives though, and they’re no different than the world. This viewpoint is diametrically opposed to message of Jesus, the apostles, and prophets of the Old Testament. They gave repentance an important place in their preaching of the gospel - as should we. Repentance is the necessary response to the Gospel. Since it’s important, let’s make sure we understand it.
October 12, 2010
The Gospel is clearly portrayed for us in the Scriptures, but in our day this message is not being conveyed. Some are distorting the message, or taking away from it, and some attempt to add to it. Today on Focal Point we’re pleased to uphold and proclaim the biblical Gospel message, as part of our “How to Get Eternal Life” series. Pastor Mike Fabarez is having us consider the story of the Rich Young Ruler.
