Questions and Answers Part 1

August 20, 2010
What you’re about to hear is a little bit different than our normal format. We thought we’d take the entire month of August to address questions people have, and look to the Bible for answers. During a recent evening service at Compass Bible Church we opened the floor and encouraged people to offer up their questions to pastor Mike. And today we’ll hear some of those questions. They range from the emergent church, to eternal security, and the baptism of the dead. We’ll get started with a question regarding the end times.

In Second Peter the Lord makes it clear that everything the believer needs for life and godliness is found in God’s Word. And that’s where we’ll turn today as pastor Mike Fabarez answers questions on the Bible, theology and the christian life. What you’re about to listen to was recorded at a service at Compass Bible Church. Men and women in the congregation that particular evening were given the opportunity to pose their questions, and pastor Mike will seek to answer them through the lens of Scripture.

We all have questions posed to us or enter into our minds, as we’re studying the Bible, or as we’re interacting with our friends. Currently here on Focal Point we’re dealing with some of them. We have a number of people lined up and ready to bring their questions to pastor Mike Fabarez today and they’re really great questions. Pastor Mike is going to give it his best shot to answer them as best he can, with Scripture as his guide of course.

How will God deal with those who have never heard the Gospel? Are there varying degrees of judgment in hell? What’s the best way to approach a Mormon or Jehovah Witness that comes knocking on your door? We’re in the process of going through pastor Mike Fabarez’ series called the Big Questions. What we thought we’d do here at the tail-end of our series, is open up the microphone to the congregation at Compass Bible Church and allow people just like you to ask their questions.

You’ve no doubt heard this question: “If homosexuality is wrong, why did God create certain people with that desire?” Maybe you’ve wondered, is there life on other planets that we don’t know about? Pastor Mike Fabarez will answer these questions and more today on Focal Point. For the rest of August, we’ll open up the microphone to a number of people, at Compass Bible Church, and Mike will tackle as many questions as he can in rapid fire fashion. I think you’ll find that these are questions many of us have entertained ourselves.

Trusting in God, when we don’t understand, that’s today’s Focal Point. Pastor Mike Fabarez is in the process of taking us through his Big Questions series, and today we’ll continue to ask ourselves if God is in control, why does evil exist? When evil touches our lives questions tend to pop up like, “Why God?” So why doesn’t God stomp out evil, or prevent people from hurting others and themselves? We’re wrestling with that big question today!

A variety of questions surface after after a tragedy, and one of them generally is, “Why would God allow something like this to happen?” Perhaps you’ve offered that or a similar question up to God before in response to the evil around us or in response to something that has happened to you personally? Today on Focal Point, pastor Mike Fabarez resumes his series called, “The Big Questions.”

Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Scientology. I could go on for days, citing the numerous religions and beliefs that are out there. Does it really matter what you believe, and who your God is? Many claim that it doesn’t, and that we’ll all end up in the same place. Today on Focal Point we think through the Big question, “Is Christianity Really the Only Way?” It’s tossed around on radio and television talk shows, and maybe you’ve been wresting with that too? Let’s join pastor Mike Fabarez now as he uncovers the facts, and shows us why we can’t fight those facts.

Today we offer up this question: “Is Christianity Really the Only Way?” There’s a movement today that encourages the unification of all world religions. They suggest no matter what you believe, we’ll all end up in the same place. Is that in line with the message of Christ and the Bible? Pastor Mike says we should let Jesus say whether or not He’s the only way.

We’re exploring answers to Christianity’s most important questions right now, in a series we’ve labeled, “The Big Questions!” The question before us today, remains, “Who is Jesus?” We’ll personalize that while we’re at it, “Who is Jesus to you?” Pastor Mike says we need to understand why God became one of us, if we’re going to answer that.

Back in 1929 and 1930, Robert Eisler published two volumes entitled “Jesus the King Who Did Not Reign.” He argued that Jesus was a revolutionary whose campaign against Rome failed. Throughout history, people have held a variety of opinions regarding who Jesus is, and maybe you have one of your own. We pose the question today on Focal Point, “Was Jesus More Than Just Another Good Teacher?” Today we enter part three in our series on “The Big Questions,” by looking at one of the biggest of them all.
