Avoiding the Common Sins of Parenting

Whether it’s seeing our child thirty feet up in a tree or wondering whether they’ll make valedictorian, it’s tempting to allow worry to get the better of us.  And while it’s natural for parents to be concerned with the well being of their children, it’s crucial we remember who’s ultimately in control.  On this edition of Focal Point, we’re looking at some of the struggles parents face.

Avoiding the Common Sins in Parenting As moms and dads, we’re used to correcting the sinful habits in our sons and daughters. Talking back, lying, getting into fights with their siblings… dealing with our children’s antics can wear any parent out!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez takes the focus off the kids for a moment, and addresses some of the temptations parents face. We expend so much energy keeping our kids out of trouble, that we may have overlooked the trouble in ourselves!

Rethinking the Importance of Your Marriage If you’re a parent, you certainly remember the day you brought your child home from the hospital. That tiny newborn was so helpless and completely dependent on mom and dad. Of course, it doesn’t stay that way for long! On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues a study about biblical parenting.  Being a parent is a tough job in today’s culture. So let’s consider what the Bible has to say about this important role.

Rethinking the Importance of Your MarriageAs parents, we spend time pouring into our kids.  Soccer games, homework, discipline…these daily tasks are high on the list of priorities for moms and dads. But while the kids are important, there’s someone else who needs our attention. It’s one person who deserves a place at the top of our list! On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez talks about, "Rethinking the Importance of Your Marriage".

Rethinking the Importance of Your Marriage When choosing a career, we often search for the best training possible to get the job done. We select college classes and internships with care, knowing that these experiences can equip us with skills we’ll need to succeed. But where do we go to learn the fine art of parenting? On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez answers that question.

Enthusiastic About Teaching God’s Word often acts like water. When it flows only into one reservoir, or recipient, it can stagnate, and doesn’t have much capacity for doing good.  But when the truth of Scripture is passed on from spring to spring, well, it stays fresh and helps everyone grow!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez challenges us to be more than just recipients of truth, but eager conduits, as well!  Are we sharing God’s Word with those in our care?

Enthusiastic About TeachingIn churches around the country you’ll likely find a variety of doctors, lawyers, managers and perhaps a few retirees as well. But there’s one profession that every follower of Christ shares and that’s the job of teacher!  We’re in a series Mike Fabarez has titled "People Tools". On this edition of Focal Point, Pastor Mike explains how to embrace our role as teachers and guide those under our care.

Serious About GivingWhen pastors give sermons about generosity, we might squirm in our seats. Is this a call to pull out our checkbooks or dig deeper into our wallets when the offering plate comes around?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that while being generous does touch upon our financesk it actually goes much father than money. Charity that makes an impact in the lives of others must include our time, talents and treasures, as well!

Serious About Giving Generosity is a valuable virtue. People who make a habit of giving can seriously impact this world. But according to God’s Word, becoming a charitable person requires more than just an investment of dollars and cents. On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explores why biblical generosity goes beyond dropping a bigger check in the offering plate. Rather, it’s a shift in our perspective. The way we view our possessions can help us make a difference in the lives of others.

Devoted to Encouragement Next time you’re in church, look around.  You’ll always see someone in need!  In the front, there’s a person who is struggling with relationships. Over there by the door, someone who is tired and ready to give up and God wants to comfort each and every person in that room.  But He is looking to us to help Him do that! On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez shows us how to become God’s tool of comfort and support.

Devoted to EncouragementThere are times when life feels like an uphill race.  We tired, we’re weak, and we seriously doubt we can take another step.  In those moments, it’s a blessing to have a friend who runs alongside saying, “Keep going!” and “You’re doing great!”  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez challenges us to be the ones who encourage and comfort God’s people.
