Nice Guys Finish First, Part 1b

August 28, 2012

Many people view the Bible as a list of rules and regulations, but as we’ll come to discover, Scripture isn’t a collection of do’s and don’ts! It’s actually a declaration of our freedom! Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez encourages us to celebrate our freedom in Jesus Christ, but he also reminds us to balance those liberties with a genuine concern for others.

Fortunately, you and I have a built in compass…an inner voice that can help keep us on the straight and narrow road! Every experienced skydiver studies a checklist before leaping out of the plane. He knows that a hasty decision, or an ill-timed jump, can lead to a hazardous situation! Today on Focal Point, we’re studying God’s checklist for wise decision-making. Just like that skydiver, we shouldn’t rush into new opportunities without first answering some important questions. It’s possible you have an important choice to make. Mike Fabarez is looking at 1 Corinthians 7 for guidance.

Throughout the Bible, we read tragic stories of people who rushed to hasty decisions. Most of us can think back to certain choices and say, “I wish I could have a do-over on that one!” Thankfully, when we’re struggling over difficult decisions, we can look to God’s Word for guidance on how to move forward. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez gives us a critical component to making the right choice.

Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t guarantee our life will be a bed of roses. There can be moments we find ourselves in a garden of thorns instead! It’s in those prickly predicaments that our trust in God is really put to the test. Today on Focal Point, we’re learning how to find contentment, even in the most impossible situations. Mike Fabarez is picking up where he left off yesterday in a study of 1 Corinthians 7. It’s a message called…"Trusting God in a Stinky Field!"

When our troubles are few and our burdens are light, it’s easy to be at peace with our situation. But how do we find contentment when the bottom drops out, and we’re left hanging by a thread? Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez opens to 1 Corinthians to help us find satisfaction in God, even when life’s tough. We’ll find that lasting contentment isn’t found in our circumstances! It’s really a matter of our attitude!

When we’re struggling with contentment, we often begin to feel unsettled and out of place. We might wonder whether the place we work, live, or serve is really where we belong. Discouraged with our circumstances, we may even be tempted to uproot and find greener pastures. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that God has a purpose for our present situation. We need to trust God and grow right where we’re planted.

What’s on your wish list for the future? A nicer house? A newer car? Or a bigger TV? It’s all well and good to enjoy the creature-comforts life affords, but when we spend too much time dwelling on what we don’t have we can easily get trapped in the nagging feelings of disappointment. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez shares a biblical strategy, "When the Grass Looks Greener." Perhaps you’ve been peeking over the proverbial fence thinkin’ life could be much better.

When we’re at the market or simply walking down the street, we pass a lot of people who look just like you and me. From the outside, you’d never be able to single out a follower of Jesus Christ. Today on Focal Point, we’ll talk about the key difference in the physical makeup of those who know God. We’re picking up where we left off yesterday in a study of 1 Corinthians 6.

But as followers of Jesus, we all have one thing in common...our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit! It’s the final portion of a three-part series called, "Sexual Sins and Sanctified Bodies."
