Life's Last Enemy, Part 1b

November 1, 2012
It’s never easy to attend the funeral of a loved one. As we gather around the coffin to say our final goodbyes, we’re hit with the sheer injustice of death. Though we’ve heard death is natural, it never really feels that way. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez affirms that it’s right to see death as unnatural. Our untimely end is a tragic problem. Fortunately…God has the perfect solution! Today’s message is part of a study in 1 Corinthians called, "Life’s Last Enemy."

Even now, as our hearts beat in a regular rhythm we all know deep down that the clock is ticking. One day, and hopefully no time soon, our heart will beat for the very last time. Yes, we all have to face the reality of death, but this wasn’t always a part of God’s plan! Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez begins a new chapter in our study of 1 Corinthians by examining our mortality. Is death an inescapable foe? Today’s message is called, "Life’s Last Enemy."

When God’s people are in trouble or in need it’s not uncommon for the Lord to intervene in supernatural ways. Accounts of phenomenal rescues, incredible healings, and divine guidance abound in pages of Scripture. So why do miracles seem rare these days? Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez takes us to key biblical passages to give us a better understanding of the design and role of supernatural events. We’re digging into the book of Corinthians for, "A Brief Study of When God Breaks the Rules He Made."

When we read through Scripture we come across stories that are, frankly, astonishing. There are varied accounts in history when God intervened, and the miraculous happened! Yet these startling events can introduce a whole host of questions. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez pauses our study in 1 Corinthians to investigate the questions surrounding miracles. Why does God choose to disrupt the laws of nature He created? And how should we respond? Today’s message is titled, "A Brief Study of When God Breaks the Rules He Made!"

Generally speaking, we can predict what will happen in our Universe. In fact, creation is so consistent that we’ve even drawn principles that we call, “The laws of nature.” But every now and then, God steps in and breaks the very laws He created in order to communicate His glory. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez takes a break from our study in 1 Corinthians to provide some biblical background on miracles. Our message is titled, "A Brief Study of When God Breaks the Rules He Made."

Most of us can give a detailed run down of what to expect at our church on a Sunday morning. We sing a hymn, someone prays, then the pastor presents a message, and then we take the offering and sing two more songs before we’re dismissed. While every congregation will look a little bit different, most churches have an orderly fashion in which things are done. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez talks about the scriptural foundations for order in the church. We're in 1 Corinthians 14.

Imagine what it would be like if large portions of your Bible were missing. What if you tried to turn to the book of Romans…only to find it wasn’t there? The Christians in the early church faced a similar problem. At that point in history the gospels and the epistles were only just being written. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez points out some of the provisions God made for those early days. We’re taking "A Closer Look at New Testament Churches without New Testaments."

Travel to France, and you’ll find people speaking French. In the Middle East, you will likely hear Arabic spoken. And here in America, most people speak in English. But what about heaven? What kind of language do they speak in the heavenly realms? Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez "Examines the Role of Tongues in the Bible." We’re trying to understand the biblical teaching on this spiritual gift and how it relates to us today.

In the Bible, significant events are often accompanied by amazing miracles. Ten plagues brought about Israel’s freedom from slavery. Healings and supernatural occurrences characterized the ministry of Jesus. And a remarkable sign signified the beginning of the church. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez takes us back to the early days of the church, to put a supernatural event in its proper context. It’s part of a study in 1 Corinthians 14.

If you’ve ever traveled to another country, or been around people who speak a different language, you know how difficult it is to communicate a point. Unless there’s someone around to interpret, it’s hard to make sense of a foreign tongue. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez talks about a similar issue in Scripture, and takes a careful look at the spiritual gift of tongues.

When we open God’s Word, we occasionally come across a puzzling passage or verse that leave us scratching our heads. When this happens, it’s time to dig a little deeper, and take a closer look at what God is telling us. Today on Focal Point, we’ll turn to 1 Corinthians 14, where we learn about a spiritual gift that is frequently misunderstood. It’s a message titled, "The Problem with Corinthians and Californian Styled Tongues."
