The Ancestry of Christ

There are exciting parts of the Bible, like fiery chariots in the sky and giant fish swallowing prophets!  But then there’s the “not-so-exciting” parts of Scripture … like the biblical genealogies.  Does it really matter who’s related to who?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains why understanding Jesus’ family tree is not only important, but exciting!  Because as we trace back the Savior’s heritage, our faith gets stronger!

He Is Risen?
Culture is doing its best to convince the world there is nothing special about Jesus. And, as Christians, sometimes we have a difficult time communicating the historical facts of the resurrection. Jesus' victory over death is central to the Christian faith and now you can get straightforward and practical facts from history why we can believe Jesus really did rise from the dead. The Harsh But Good NewsCalled to the witness stand, the court bailiff will charge us to “tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”  And as witnesses for Jesus, we have the same responsibility to tell the complete message of the gospel!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez looks at the example of John the Baptist who didn’t flinch, gloss over or subtract anything from The Harsh But Good News.

The Harsh But Good NewsWhen we finally work up the courage to share the good news, it’s tempting to start with the truth of God’s love.  But that would mean skipping over a crucial part of the message … the sensitive topic of sin and judgment!  But without knowing their for salvation, why would anyone turn to a Savior?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez will lay out The Harsh But Good News.

The Harsh But Good NewsWe talk often about the love of God, and rightly so!  Scripture tells us that God is an infinite source of mercy and compassion.  But there’s another aspect of God’s character that rarely gets as much notice.  And that’s His justice.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez addresses a sensitive, but critical component of the gospel.

The Harsh But Good News We all carry around an internal list of our accomplishments, talents, or trophies.  It’s the résumé of our worth.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that whether our résumés of righteousness are large or small, none of our good works move us any closer to God.  The grace and love of the Lord is not the result of zealous self-improvement, but a humble reliance on the finished work of Christ.

The Harsh But Good NewsStanding side- by- side with others in the world, we may look pretty good in comparison.  Up against a laundry list of evils committed, we may stand a little straighter as good and decent people.  However, if we were to measure ourselves against the Bible’s standards for righteousness, the answer is a bit more humbling.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez shoots straight about where we stand in relation to God’s standards.

The Harsh But Good News It’s human nature to inflate our own importance and exaggerate our accomplishments.  Whether to impress those around us, or convince ourselves of our own worth, we may tend to act as if we have it all together.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez is looking at the gospel of Luke, Chapter 3, to help us see ourselves in the right perspective.

The Harsh But Good NewsThey say, “actions speak louder than words.”  So what do our actions say about our relationship with God?  Is the evidence of our lives complimentary or contradictory to the words coming out of our mouths?  On this edition of Focal Point, as we continue our study on John the Baptist, Mike Fabarez shows us why what we say must be backed up by how we live.

The Harsh But Good NewsIf you want to know who is a follower of Jesus, don’t look for indications in what they wear, where they live, or to some degree, even what they say!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez opens the book of Luke to find that faith is not evidenced solely by the beliefs we profess, but the obedient lives we lead!

The Harsh But Good NewsWell, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.  Which would you like to hear first?  Before you answer, listen to Mike Fabarez on this edition of Focal Point, as he explains how we cannot appreciate truly good news … without hearing the bad news as well.  It’s a lesson we learn from John the Baptist in Luke, Chapter 3.  Once we understand the uncomfortable truth about sin, we can fully grasp and embrace the concept of grace!

The Harsh But Good NewsJohn wore camel hair.  We wear denim and cotton.  John lived out in the desert.  Many of us reside in the suburbs.  Though there are many differences between John the Baptist and ourselves, our ministries are very similar!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez details the message that John the Baptist shared in his generation, so that we can take over where he left off and continue to spread that challenging, but loving, message of the gospel!
