The Ancestry of Christ

You’ve heard it said, “Like Father, like son.”  And when it comes to the patterns of sin that our forefathers practiced, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!  We’ve inherited the same tendencies towards sin and rebellion as those who’ve gone before us!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez points to one person who broke the lineage of sin and death and offers us forgiveness instead!

The Ancestry of ChristThe evil we see in the world can be traced back to that first act of disobedience in a Garden called “Eden.”  And as the descendants of Adam and Eve, we’ve carried on this tradition of sin ever since.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues a study on the Ancestry of Christ by looking back on Jesus’ family tree.  At the end of that long list of names in Scripture we find one descendant of Adam who broke the long lineage of sin.

The Ancestry of ChristIf you’re a follower of Jesus, it’s likely you can remember the moment you accepted the gospel as truth.  Maybe you can recall the choices you made and the habits that altered as a result of your commitment.  On this edition of Focal Point, we’re reminded that while our life has changed, we get none of the credit.  It’s all due to the unmerited grace of God!  Mike Fabarez is guiding us through The Ancestry of Christ, and the intricacies of God’s forgiveness.

The Ancestry of ChristAs Abraham and Sarah grew older, their window for becoming parents was getting smaller.  They would’ve liked a house full of kids, but at one point, all Abraham and Sarah wanted was at least one child!  You can imagine their surprise, then, when God told this couple that He would make them the parents of many nations!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains how everyone who puts their trust in Jesus is a descendant of Abraham!

The Ancestry of ChristSpeaking about Christianity, some people may use words like, “narrow-minded” or “intolerant.” Yet, if we look at the expansion of God’s kingdom around the world, it’s clear that the message of Jesus draws people of every tribe, tongue and nation!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez studies The Ancestry of Christ to reveal that God doesn’t care for just one people, one nation, one culture.  No, God loves the whole world!

The Ancestry of Christ“For God so loved Israel, that He gave His one and only Son to that particular people.”  Well, if you’re familiar with John 3:16, you know that is not how the verse reads at all!  The Bible says clearly that “God so loved … the world.”  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez traces God’s love for all people back thousands of years to a guy named Abraham.  From his family would come a Savior for the world.

The Ancestry of ChristEver met someone who makes a lot of guarantees but never comes through? Your confidence in that person is thin, because you know that just because they say it, doesn’t mean they’ll do it.  On the flip side, if someone has never gone back on their word, that engenders a lot of trust!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez provides evidence that we can take God at His word.

The Ancestry of ChristDavid was shepherd, a poet and the greatest king his nation had ever seen.  Jesus was a humble carpenter, a wise teacher and the promised Messiah.  So where’s the connection between these two historical figures?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez traces for us the relation between Jesus and King David.  And what we’ll find is that the genealogy of Christ can build our assurance in the reliability of God!

The Ancestry of ChristThere are exciting parts of the Bible, like fiery chariots in the sky and giant fish swallowing prophets!  But then there’s the “not-so-exciting” parts of Scripture … like the biblical genealogies.  Does it really matter who’s related to who?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains why understanding Jesus’ family tree is not only important, but exciting!  Because as we trace back the Savior’s heritage, our faith gets stronger!

The Harsh But Good NewsCalled to the witness stand, the court bailiff will charge us to “tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”  And as witnesses for Jesus, we have the same responsibility to tell the complete message of the gospel!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez looks at the example of John the Baptist who didn’t flinch, gloss over or subtract anything from The Harsh But Good News.

The Harsh But Good NewsWhen we finally work up the courage to share the good news, it’s tempting to start with the truth of God’s love.  But that would mean skipping over a crucial part of the message … the sensitive topic of sin and judgment!  But without knowing their for salvation, why would anyone turn to a Savior?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez will lay out The Harsh But Good News.
