Through the recent recession, we saw how quickly our investments can disappear. Every once in a while you hear of a one time mulit-millionaire faced with bankruptcy, due to poor investments. As tragic as that sounds, if we stop and think about it, really everything on earth will pass away. However, there are some things we can invest in now, that we can take with us into eternity. Many of us frequent fliers have experienced the frustration of waiting for the plane to take off. Perhaps the weather conditions aren’t just right, or there is ice on the wings. We’re trusting the airlines with our lives, and so we really shouldn’t mind waiting to make sure things are safe. As Christians, we’ve been waiting around for Christ to return for centuries, but there are good reasons for the delay.

Throughout this month pastor Mike Fabarez has been focusing our attention on prayer, and as we wrap up the series today our aim is to take our prayer life to a whole new level. And that is to be more consistent, thoughtful and specific. When we left you last time, Mike said we need start with a decision to pray, and then guard it. Now we see how thanksgiving is to be woven into our prayer time.

It was Richard Trench that said “Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance but cooperating with His willingness.” That’s so true isn’t it, and yet so many of us are reluctant to cooperate with His willingness. Many times we want our own way, which runs in the opposite direction of God’s way. We turn back to First John on this Thursday and examine the words of chapter three, and verses 21-24.
