Fighting Sinful Anger

The natural way of dealing with feelings of anger is either to get loud, get cold, or get even! When anger grabs a hold of us, we’re prone to hurt those who’ve hurt us. On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that Jesus demonstrated a radical new way of handling such hostile feelings. And by following the biblical model we find in passages like Colossians, Chapter 3 that we can calm an angry heart.

Combating Sexual Sin Kids can tell you that to color a beautiful picture, you have to stay within the lines!  If your crayon wanders outside those boundaries, your picture gets distorted.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez is picking up where he left off yesterday in a sensitive study titled, Combating Sexual Sin.  We’ll discover the biblical borders that God has designed for sex, and how to make sure we stay within the lines.

Combating Sexual Sin Try as we might, it’s difficult to avoid the blatant sensual images we see on billboards, magazines and movies.  In a world that encourages us to gratify every personal desire, it’s difficult to maintain purity.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez approaches this sensitive topic with biblical insights.  Chances are, many of us need to un-learn some of the ways we think about sex.  In the book of Colossians, we’ll gain the tools we need in our struggle for purity.

A Time to Be RuthlessHave you noticed times in your life where you want to serve God and follow Him faithfully but you often find yourself doing the exact opposite?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that as followers of Christ, we are involved in a war with ourselves!  The conflict that we feel is the result of sin and the Spirit going toe-to-toe.  So, what can we do to make sure we win the fight?

A Time to Be Ruthless Being a follower of Christ is not for the faint of heart.  According to Mike Fabarez, when we turned our lives over to Jesus, we also enlisted in an ongoing war that demands our vigilance and perseverance.  On this edition of Focal Point, we’ll hear about the enemy in this spiritual war: our sinful nature.  And because our sinful nature pulls no punches in order to win, we have to do the same.

Keeping Your Eyes on the Destination It’s likely that you wouldn’t buy into a business that was guaranteed to go bankrupt the following year.  That’s because sinking resources into a company bound to go belly-up is obviously a bad investment!  On this edtition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez cautions us against making the same mistake!  This world, and everything in it, will one day pass away.  So where should we invest our time, talent, and treasures instead?

Keeping Your Eyes on the Destination Welcome to Focal Point, with pastor and Bible teacher, Mike Fabarez.  Currently, we’ve been in a study of the book of Colossians, called "Spiritual Detours".  We have seen that, not unlike our own day, the believers of that early church were looking to follow Jesus, but were often sidetracked.  In loving response, the Apostle Paul gave them guidance on how to block out the diversions and distractions, and keep moving ahead.

Avoiding the Trap of Religious Experientialism Adrenaline junkies will do whatever it takes to chase that thrilling rush of emotion, whether it’s jumping out of a plane or careening down a mountain.  In the Christian life, we may be tempted to act the same way and chase spiritual euphoria at any cost.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that pursuing the experience will only lead us to a spiritual dead end!  God has a much better goal in mind.

Avoiding the Trap of Religious ExperientialismThere are days when walking with God is a joyful experience.  We can sense the Lord’s presence, and we’re excited to be on this spiritual journey.  But then there are times when being a Christian doesn’t feel all that good and it’s easy to become discouraged.  But do these emotions mean we’re lesser Christians?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez offers both encouragement and a challenge.  You see, following Christ is less about our feelings and more about our will.
