Impeccable Promises and Divine Character, Part 1

January 13, 2015
We may start our day swinging for the fences.  But then disappointment hits us.  Or discouragement lands a blow.  Or regrets knock us backward.  Pretty soon, we’re up against the ropes.  In those moments it’s tough to stay on our feet.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says it’s the promises of God that hold us up when life does its best to knock us down.  It’s confidence in the faithfulness of God that allows us to stand strong!

Have you ever felt a disconnect between what God has promised and what you’re experiencing?  There are times when it seems like what God has said isn’t the way things really are.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explores what to do God’s promises doesn’t seem to match what is going on in our lives.  To do so, we’ll turn to an Old Testament character for encouragement and instruction.

Have you ever lost patience with God?  Maybe there’s a prayer you’ve been waiting for God to answer.  Or a promise from God that remains unfulfilled.  The real question is, can God be trusted to keep His word?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says the answer can be found in the example of Abraham.  Because the God who was faithful then, is the same God who’s just as faithful now.

Does God ever break a promise?  While the right answer is “no”, there can be moments when we feel differently!  When dealing with unanswered prayers or unfulfilled needs, we wonder, “does God truly do what He says?”  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues our mini-series in Hebrews called When God Makes a Promise.  And together, we’ll look at the guarantees God made with Abraham.

It’s been said that “the only sure things in life are death and taxes.”  While that may be an exaggeration, it’s safe to say there aren’t many guarantees in life.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says that in a world of uncertainties, there’s one thing we can rely on.  And that’s the word of God.  If God says it … count on it!  So what are some of those promises?

Ask a random person in a coffee shop, “Are you going to heaven someday?” and you might hear, “Maybe … I think so … I hope so.”  Those answers reflect an uncertainty about God, and people’s relationship to Him.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says we don’t have to live in constant state of uncertainty.  And the reason we can experience confidence in a heavenly future is because God always keep His promises!

You know, there aren’t many guarantees we can count on in the world.  Resolutions are easily forgotten and promises quickly broken.  In an uncertain world, where can we place our trust?  Last time in our Hebrew series, Mike Fabarez gave us a crash course in the sure foundations of our faith.  As we resume the series today, we’ll take a closer look at the promises of God … to test their dependability.

Most of us wouldn’t have any problem finding areas of dissatisfaction in our lives.  It’s finding contentment in who we are, in where we are, or with what we have that is difficult!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez offers a biblical remedy for the pangs of disappointment.  In those moments when we feel incomplete, it’s time to turn to our all-sufficient God … in praise!

No matter how great Christmas was, there’s always a touch of disappointment when it ends.  Maybe our family wasn’t together for the holidays.  Perhaps a recent pain overshadowed the joy of the holiday.  Or maybe we never got what we truly wanted for Christmas.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says the disappointments,  frustrations and hurts of this world can make contentment an elusive feeling.  Thankfully, there’s an answer to that incomplete feeling.
