Head Games, Part 5a

July 4, 2012
From the beginning of time, people have sought to understand the God of the Universe. Hundreds of different religions try to answer the big questions of life, but there’s only one place we can go to discover real answers. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains where we can find the “secret wisdom of God.” The Bible reveals astounding truth about God and salvation. But sadly, many people are slow to receive it!

Whether you’ve been following Jesus for a long time, or you’re brand new to the faith, it’s important we get the Gospel message right. Let’s say you had an opportunity to share the Good News today. What would you say? Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez teaches from 1 Corinthians. When presenting the Gospel, the Apostle Paul didn’t try to make the message attractive or entertaining. He simply resolved to “know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”

As followers of Jesus, we’ve been given an important task to share the good news with others. Sometimes people are willing to hear, but often we’re met with stiff resistance. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues his study in 1 Corinthians. When someone rejects the Gospel, it’s tempting to bend the truth a little to entice those on the fence to believe. But tampering with the message will yield terrible results!

When we’re interviewing for a job, we generally try to put our best foot forward. We highlight all the impressive qualifications on our resume, talk about our strengths, and dress to impress. While this is appropriate for a job interview, our relationship with God is based on a completely different standard. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues a study in 1 Corinthians. Fortunately for most of us, God doesn’t choose us for our impressive qualifications.

These days, we place a high value on people who stand out among the rest. We look to the smartest, the strongest and the richest with admiration. But while the world relies on personal prominence to pave the way for success, followers of Jesus rely on something much different. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez presents a study in 1 Corinthians called, "God’s Reminder for Smart Guys." Fortunately, God can use the most unlikely people for His glory.

What proof do we need in order to know that Jesus is God? Some people demand miraculous signs to convince them of the truth. Others want perfect solutions to difficult questions. Unfortunately, miracles and reasons rarely satisfy the skeptic. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez talks about our tendency to "Look for Wisdom in All the Wrong Places." When people demand proof that the Bible is true…sometimes, it’s just a well-crafted excuse!

Excuses, excuses! Whether it’s a missed birthday party or family event, or a missed deadline at work, we’ve all given our fair share of “creative explanations.” I imagine you’ve heard your own fair share of excuses, as well! Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez talks about some of the defenses people use to reject God’s Word. We’re looking at 1 Corinthians 1. It’s a message titled, "Head Games."

Have you ever tried to share your faith with someone, only to be met with resistance, or even hostility? Experiences like these remind us that we’re battling a culture that has rejected God’s truth. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez challenges us to look to the Bible for how to think and act in today’s world. We’re picking up where we left off last week in a study of 1 Corinthians.

While many people in today’s culture claim to be Christian there are an increasing number of people who reject the authority of God’s Word. But what the world considers foolishness we know to be life and truth! Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez presents a study he calls, "Head Games." It’s tempting to make the Gospel message more attractive to those who reject it. But the reality is…the battle for truth is tougher than we realize!

When hardships hit us from all sides, we’re desperate for real, tangible relief. Fortunately, God hasn’t left us to handle difficult situations on our own. He’s provided everything we need to make it through. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez describes the resources that are available to us as followers of Jesus. We’re digging into 1 Corinthians 1.
