Faithful to God Part 1b

February 1, 2011
In Luke 18 we find the question,"When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" Will He find us faithful? We'll observe the faithfulness of Christ and be encouraged to be faithful ourselves today on Focal Point with Mike Fabarez. The third chapter of Hebrews is really all about faithfulness and describes the kind of faithfulness God desires of us. He left us a perfect example to follow, and of course that's Christ.

Today pastor Mike Fabarez begins a four part series on faithfulness to God. We start things off by looking at Moses, who though he was far from perfect, stands out in Scripture as one who was loyal and faithful to God even when it was costly. Wouldn’t you like that to be said of you? Let’s see what it takes to receive the title, “Faithful!”

Last time we were together, Mike Fabarez was encouraging us to think rightly of ourselves. We learned that really God owns us, and our lives ought to reflect that. Now as we come back to Hebrews 3:1 we’re encouraged to think of Jesus as our everything. He’s everything we need from God, and everything God needs from us. And then we need to think about Jesus more often. Christianity is more than a creed, and it’s something that controls our thinking and lives.

If asked to define Christianity would you do so in terms of a creed or set of beliefs? Many would. But today on Focal Point, Pastor Mike Fabarez will show us that it’s so much more than that. As Mike is about to put it, it’s really not a belief that you hold but a belief that holds you. Christianity is more than a creed, and it starts by realizing God owns us, and that we’re set apart for Him.

Communion... that’s one of the sacraments the church is to observe today. Do we really understand the cost of Christ coming, and the benefits? The cost and benefit of the incarnation is today’s Focal Point. We’ll not only gain some appreciation of the cost of Christ coming to save us from our sins, but also we’ll take some time to celebrate the incredible benefits in light of the incarnation.

Pastor Mike Fabarez is going verse by verse through Hebrews, and today our Focal Point is the cost of Christ’s coming. Our aim is to gain a greater appreciation for the one who left the riches of heaven to become one of us. We celebrate that at Christmas time, but do we really understand the costs and benefits of the incarnation? Some are under the illusion that He merely came to make life a little better for us, or save us from our problems. Pastor Mike shows us why Jesus really came.

There’s no shortage of pain, suffering and injustice in our world today, but how should the Christian respond to it all? Last time Mike Fabarez explored the problem with our world today. He showed us that God has chosen to delegate His authority right now. Those He has delegated it to are sinful, and it’s because of that sin that we find injustice and suffering. The story doesn’t end there though. We’re about to see that God will one day take back the authority He has delegated, and that brings a wondeful hope with it!

Obviously injustice exists in our world today, and good people suffer. That leads some to wonder why God would allow all of this, and others to deny His existence because of it.   Perhaps your home-life is a real mess, or your wonderful neighbor down the street has suffered a life-altering catastrophe. Pastor Mike Fabarez says it’s important to look forward without giving up.

Can you think of an unbelieving friend or family member that you’ve gone round and round with about the Gospel and they find it hard to buy into and want proof?  That’s exactly what we’ll offer you today from Hebrews chapter two. If we’re willing to do our homework, we’ll discover it really is true.  If there’s any lingering doubts in your mind, Mike Fabarez says rethink the apostles authority, and research the documents.  There’s only one conclusion we can reach if we do.

I think it’s safe to say all of us have our doubts, and some really struggle with doubts over God’s Word and His message.  Today we turn to Hebrews two and ask ourselves, “Is God’s message true?”  I think you’ll find this very helpful for those times when doubt creeps into your mind, or is present for someone else you know.

Think for a moment what things would be like here in the States if we had laws and rules, but nobody enforced them!  There would be utter chaos no doubt right!  Today on Focal Point Pastor Mike Fabarez emphasizes the goodness and justice of God, seen through His discipline.  God loves us very much, and He’s perfect in every way.  He not only makes the rules, but enforces them too, and on top of it all makes a way for us to be forgiven.   We can’t afford to miss that!
