Luke: God’s Diligent Student

Two thousand years ago, the Son of God took the world’s stage.  And surrounding Jesus were a host of characters chosen by God to play a part in the greatest story ever told.  It’s these fascinating and flawed men and women that showcase God’s ability to use ordinary people to accomplish His amazing plan.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez begins a new series, focusing on these figures surrounding Jesus.  And we begin with a doctor, author and careful historian.

What to Do When God Has Done EverythingAccording to James, “Every good and perfect gift” comes from our Heavenly Father.  From the roof over our head, to the grace and mercy that cover us each day, God has held nothing back.  So with arms piled with abundant goodness, how can we possibly say “Thank You”?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez suggests a biblical response to God’s gifts.

What to Do When God Has Done EverythingLet’s take a moment to take inventory of our life.  Is there anything we have that hasn’t been given to us by God?  From the clothes on our back to the breath in our lungs, they’re all gifts from the hands of our Heavenly Father.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez turns to Second Samuel, chapter 7 to see how we should respond to the tremendous grace we enjoy each day.

Pondering the Wonderful Inequity in Your Relationship with God If you received a priceless work of art as a gift, would you reciprocate with a free-hand doodle?  Or if a friend gave you a winning lottery ticket, could you settle the score with change from your pocket?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says there’s nothing we can offer God that would match His matchless grace.  Are you still trying to earn His favor?

Pondering the Wonderful Inequity in Your Relationship with GodThere’s an inherent inequity in the grace of God.  He gives us everything we need for life and godliness, and we can offer nothing of real value in return! On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explores the generous, freeing and ultimately humbling goodness of God towards us.

Pondering the Wonderful Inequity in Your Relationship with God Between friends and family, there’s usually some element of give-and-take.  You watch your neighbors kids one night, they reciprocate the next weekend.  You cook dinner on Tuesday and your spouse will take out the trash on Wednesday.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez shows us that when it comes to our relationship with God, it’s wonderfully one-sided!  We’re the recipients of God’s grace and can offer nothing in return!

The Value Adjustments for Those Learning to Endure The guiding motto of modern governments and households has been, “Enjoy it now, pay for it later.”  With easy financing, low monthly payments, and no money down, we can have the rewards with none of the effort.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that in God’s economy, godly qualities aren’t earned on credit.  It’ll take work, and possibly some trials, in order to develop the precious virtues we need.

The Value Adjustments for Those Learning to EndureIn order to learn something, it’s helpful to have a teacher; someone who has mastered the skill and is able to convey that knowledge to us. As we continue the series called "Stick-to-itiveness", it’s clear that to live the Christian life, we need to learn perseverance. On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that the very best teacher is Jesus Himself.  We can look to Him for help in withstanding the trials and moving forward.

In fact, doing the right thing takes extra work! Feeling tired yet? On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez provides biblical motivation to keep on the straight and narrow path. As we fix our mind on the goal of the Christian life, God’s developing in us the strength to keep going.

How to Keep Running When You Feel Like Giving UpThe Bible compares the Christian life to a race.  And just like any competition, there are times when living for the Lord makes us feel tired, drained and ready to throw in the towel. On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez offers fresh encouragement and motivation to keep going.  Even though following after Jesus can be tiring, God’s Word says that every step in the right direction is a step worth taking.
