Encouraged, Part 7a

May 14, 2012
There are certain things in life that are absolutely necessary for survival. We all need food, water, shelter and clothing. Today on Focal Point, we’ll talk about another essential ingredient for a healthy life, and that’s encouragement. We’re looking at the last part of Romans with Mike Fabarez. In these closing verses, the Apostle Paul singles out those who were faithfully serving the church, and how they deserve both support and affection.

We all go through ups and downs in the seasons of life. Sometimes all is well and we’re on top of the world. But other times we’re struggling just to get through the day. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez reminds us how the community of believers provides a place where we can give support and receive encouragement. When we’re in a bind, we expect our parents, our kids and other close family members to help us out. But when we experience a random act of kindness and compassion, it teaches us a powerful lesson about the love of God. Today on Focal Point, we’re looking at the Bible’s teaching on reaching out to others. As followers of Jesus, we benefit from a larger community of brothers and sisters in Christ.

There’s a healthy sense of pride that comes from a job well done. It feels good to breathe a sigh of relief after a productive day of hard work. Someday we’ll look back on our life and consider the work we’ve done for our Heavenly Father. Hopefully, it will be with thanksgiving for what the Lord has done in and through us! Today on Focal Point we’re learning from Paul’s example. Mike Fabarez' message is titled, "The Encouragement of Extending God’s Kingdom."

Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things.” Sometimes we set out to do something, maybe even the right thing, but our motives are completely out of line. Today on Focal Point, we’ll talk about the significance of a “heart full of goodness.” When we set out to correct a friend or family member, it’s crucial we check our motives.

A true friend will let us know when we have lettuce in our teeth, or the price tag on our new jacket. It’s comforting to know these friends have our back, so to speak. When it comes to our relationship with God we can count on other followers of Jesus to help us out along the way. Today on Focal Point, Mike Fabarez presents a study called, "Learning to Encourage One Another." It’s a helpful reminder we’re not in this alone!
