Curbing Your Appetites, Part 3

February 12, 2014
Let’s be honest; we all have needs.  We need food.  We need love.  We need money to pay our bills.  And the Bible says that God wants to satisfy and supply for each of our necessities!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez warns us that where we run into trouble is when we take the shortcuts to personal satisfaction and don’t find true fulfillment God’s way.

On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez is teaching us what the Bible says about gratifying our desires God’s way.

Hunger is a healthy craving for nourishment and energy.  But left unchecked, it can lead us to consume more than we should, or eat the foods that we know are bad for us.  And the same applies to the rest of our personal desires as well!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains how to rein in our inner passions.  It’s not through greater self-denial, but through a better focus on the Savior.

TemptationUnder a relentless sun in a barren wilderness, Jesus showed us how to battle temptation … and win!  Yet, that victory in the desert was more than an object lesson in resisting sin.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says the temptation of Jesus also played a pivotal role in our salvation.  It’s the outcome of this battle between Jesus and Satan that allows you and I to have hope right now!

TemptationWhen it comes to temptation, we’re all susceptible to its pull.  Resisting the sin that so easily ensnares and entangles us is a daily battle.  And we’d all like to see more victory in our lives.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez teaches that winning the war against temptation is not about gritting our teeth and working hard.  Lasting victory is found in trusting what Jesus accomplished in the desert two thousand years ago!

TemptationIn today’s permissive culture, trying to live according to the standards of God’s Word is far from easy.  Every day, we’re faced with invitations to give in to temptation.  So, how do we fight back?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez begins a study in Luke about facing temptation.  When it comes to battling sin, we all have our weaknesses.  But the strategies for resisting our worldly desires are the same!

The Ancestry of ChristYou’ve heard it said, “Like Father, like son.”  And when it comes to the patterns of sin that our forefathers practiced, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!  We’ve inherited the same tendencies towards sin and rebellion as those who’ve gone before us!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez points to one person who broke the lineage of sin and death and offers us forgiveness instead!

The Ancestry of ChristThe evil we see in the world can be traced back to that first act of disobedience in a Garden called “Eden.”  And as the descendants of Adam and Eve, we’ve carried on this tradition of sin ever since.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues a study on the Ancestry of Christ by looking back on Jesus’ family tree.  At the end of that long list of names in Scripture we find one descendant of Adam who broke the long lineage of sin.

The Ancestry of ChristIf you’re a follower of Jesus, it’s likely you can remember the moment you accepted the gospel as truth.  Maybe you can recall the choices you made and the habits that altered as a result of your commitment.  On this edition of Focal Point, we’re reminded that while our life has changed, we get none of the credit.  It’s all due to the unmerited grace of God!  Mike Fabarez is guiding us through The Ancestry of Christ, and the intricacies of God’s forgiveness.

The Ancestry of ChristAs Abraham and Sarah grew older, their window for becoming parents was getting smaller.  They would’ve liked a house full of kids, but at one point, all Abraham and Sarah wanted was at least one child!  You can imagine their surprise, then, when God told this couple that He would make them the parents of many nations!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains how everyone who puts their trust in Jesus is a descendant of Abraham!

The Ancestry of ChristSpeaking about Christianity, some people may use words like, “narrow-minded” or “intolerant.” Yet, if we look at the expansion of God’s kingdom around the world, it’s clear that the message of Jesus draws people of every tribe, tongue and nation!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez studies The Ancestry of Christ to reveal that God doesn’t care for just one people, one nation, one culture.  No, God loves the whole world!
