Bethlehem, the Epicenter of a Divine Revolution, Part 2

December 22, 2014
Every great revolution in history started somewhere.  The Protestant Reformation began on a church door in Wittenberg, Germany.  The American Revolution began on a ship in Boston harbor.  But the greatest movement in history took place in tiny village in Israel.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez takes us back to Bethlehem, The Epicenter of a Divine Revolution.  We’ll see how the birthplace of Jesus Christ reveals the purpose of His arrival.

It wasn’t a capital city.  It wasn’t a bustling metropolis.  It wasn’t even a hub for business and commerce.  Bethlehem was a tiny dot on the map.  Blink and you’d likely drive right past it.  But it was in this little town in Israel that the greatest event in history took place.  On this edition of Focal Point, we’ll see how the place of Christ’s birth can tell us a lot about the purpose of Jesus’ arrival.

Scripture says God is the giver of every good and perfect gift.  From the breath that fills our lungs right now, to forgiveness of all of our sins, and the life-sustaining hope of heaven … we’re surrounded by God’s amazing blessings.  The truth is, we could never out give God!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says that even though we can’t match God’s generosity, we can model it!

What would the Christmas story be without the wise men?  These learned men from the Far East travelled hundreds of miles to bring Jesus expensive and extravagant gifts.  And while you and I might not be able to bring gold, Frankincense, or Myrrh, all of us have the opportunity to give Jesus something of far greater worth.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez lists three things we can offer our Savior this Christmas.

It seems like everybody has someone on their Christmas list who’s especially difficult to shop for.  Maybe they already have everything they need, or they’re very particular about the gifts they want!  Well, what if Jesus was on our list?  What could we possibly give the Creator of the universe that He doesn’t already have?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explores some helpful passages that give us a hint about what we can offer God this year.

The gifts around the tree, the delicious food on the table, the warmth of friends and family.  We’re surrounded by so many blessings during the Christmas season.  But sometimes all the good things can distract us from what is truly great about Christmas. On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez helps us gain a little Christmas Clarity as we prepare for the holidays.  We’ll unwrap all the packaging of this season to reflect on God’s grace.

It can be funny watching a toddler open Christmas presents.  Sometimes a child is so infatuated with the wrapping paper, or the bows, that he completely overlooks the present underneath!  We may laugh … but are we prone to the same shortsightedness?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez encourages us to look past all the good things of the season … to focus on the true gift.

Whether we’re parked in traffic, lingering in line at the store, or sitting quietly in the doctor’s office, we do a lot of waiting.  And you’d think with all those opportunities to practice patience, we’d be better at it!  Yet, when it comes to God, we can be very impatient!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez teaches us What To Do When God Makes You Wait.

Is there anything more frustrating than being on the phone and hearing … “Please hold”?  We can quickly lose patience waiting for an answer.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez says there are moments when it seems like God has us on hold.  We’ve called … and called … but all we seem to get is a busy signal.  In those moments, we need to remember that Silent Night of Christ’s birth.
