Being Rightly Concerned About Real Faith, Part 3

October 9, 2014

With our busy schedules, many of us don’t have time for self-reflection.  We travel through the day set on autopilot … unaware, at times, of where we’re headed.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez asks us to take moment to examine ourselves.  We’re in a series in Hebrews called Am I Really a Christian?

Some passages of Scripture are like dessert.  The words are comforting, sweet and simply delicious.  But there are other sections of the Bible that feel more like vegetables.  We may be tempted to skip those parts of Scripture and dive right into the good stuff.  But often, it’s the tough passages of God’s Word that offer the most nourishment for our growing faith.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez turns to Hebrews 4, a section that challenges us to answer the question … Am I Really a Christian?

“Are you a Christian?”  It’s a question we might ask our unbelieving neighbor, skeptical co-worker, or the person across the globe who has never heard the gospel.  Yet, the writer of Hebrews asks that very question of those that profess faith … “Are you truly a follower of Jesus?”  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez begins a new mini-series that’ll help us examine ourselves and answer that important, and penetrating question.

What is our salvation contingent upon?  The Bible says that God’s grace is a free gift we cannot earn, buy, or deserve.  But can we lose that gift by what we do … or don’t do?  Is our salvation conditional on our behavior?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez helps answer A Question of Perseverance, Salvation & Eternal Security …

On this edition of Focal Point, we’ll be exploring the question, “Is Jesus really the only way?”

Maybe you know someone who once walked an aisle, prayed a prayer, was baptized, but now has turned away from Jesus.  Are they still a Christian?  Were they ever a Christian?  These questions hit especially close to home when we think about a family member or friend who gave their life to Christ … but have since walked away.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez takes us to a few key spots in Scripture to help us understand the Question of Perseverance, Salvation & Eternal Security.

Recently we’ve been talking a great deal about faithfulness to God.  Mike Fabarez began by explaining our own need to remain faithful to Christ.  And previously, Pastor Mike described how we can help others stay loyal too.  As our series, Faithful to God, continues … we’ll study another important issue: Is our salvation contingent on our faithfulness to Christ?

Running is not usually a team sport.  The goal is to stay in your lane, outpace your opponents, and be the first one to cross the finish line.  But that’s not how the Bible describes our pursuit of Christ.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez echoes God’s call to follow Him … together.  When someone stumbles, falls, or starts to wander, we have a responsibility to help them get back into the race.

It’s important to have a personal walk with Christ.  But what about that friend who has stumbled along the way?  How about that brother or sister who has wandered away from God’s path?  Are we to do anything to help them follow Christ?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains that while each of us need an individual relationship with God, loyalty to Christ is a team effort!

No one is immune to pain of trials … not even Pastors!  When trials come our way, even the most faithful follower of Jesus struggles to find answers.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez sits down with radio host, Frank Sontag, to talk about a personal trial he experienced, and the comfort and encouragement he found in God’s Word.  It’s what makes up Pastor Mike’s latest book called Lifelines For Tough Times.

In our society, we celebrate individual achievement and defend personal privacy.  And so, we’re often reluctant to involve ourselves in the lives of other people.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez shows us God’s counter-cultural pattern for His people.  Hebrews, chapter 3 calls us to life of faithfulness.  But as we’re about to discover, being faithful to Jesus is a joint effort.  In fact, we cannot follow Christ without the support of others!
