Sickness is unfortunate reality in this world.  Sometimes it creeps in as a sore throat or a pounding headache.  Other times illness storms into our lives, causing doctor visits and hospitals stays.  But disease won’t always be a grim fact of life.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez begins a new mini-series in Luke called Preparing for the Kingdom.  In this first message, we’ll see how the healings of Jesus serve as a preview of a better world.

On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez concludes our mini-series in Luke called Christianity in Real Life.  It’s an in-depth study of the Sermon on the Plain, where Jesus gave us His wisdom on many practical areas of life … like finances, relationships, and expectations for the future.  But why do the words of Jesus require our complete attention and ready response?  What’s our motivation to listen to what Jesus commands?

In some special editions of the Bible, there are pages and pages of black letters on a white background.  But make your way over to the gospels, and you’ll discover the eye-catching, red-lettered words of Christ.  You can’t help but stop and focus on those verses.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez explains why the words of Jesus deserve our complete attention.  It’s not only what those words say, but also who is saying them!

On this edition of Focal Point, we drop in to Pastor Mike’s study as he sits down with Executive Director Jay Wertin to talk about our current series … "Christianity in Real Life".

If you want tacos … you won’t find them at an Italian restaurant.  And if you’re looking for a vegetarian meal … stay away from steakhouses!  Seems so evident, it’s not worth mentioning.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez reminds us of "The Importance of Admitting the Obvious".  Jesus said, Good trees bear good fruit. Bad trees bear bad fruit.  Why explain something so obvious?  Because we may not understand the difference between the two!

The gospels are full of accounts of men and women who had an encounter with Jesus, and their lives were changed forever.  In a single moment, their rebellious heart was changed into a righteous one.  But how does that miraculous process happen?  And what is the evidence of inner transformation that we can point to in our lives?   On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez turns to a sermon from Jesus for a revealing look at the sequence of salvation.

It’s difficult to solve complex algebra problems without first knowing how to add, subtract and multiply.  And when we’re practicing Christianity in Real Life, it’s also a good idea to review the basics.  A firm grasp of the fundamentals will help us face everyday problems.  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez examines the essential principles of the gospel.  What factor does the message, our faith, and good works play in the biblical equation of salvation?

It’s a frustrating nuisance to have a piece of dust in your eye.  That tiny irritant can make vision difficult.  But imagine how challenging it would be to see if you had a plank stuck in your eye instead!  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez studies Jesus’ illustration of two people with vision problems.  It’s a warning on the dangers of hypocrisy, but also an affirmation of The Practical Value of Integrity.

Reading God’s Word is like looking into a mirror. And sometimes the image reflected is not the person we really want to be!  It can be unpleasant at times to come face-to-face with our imperfections, but it’s really for our ultimate benefit! On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez continues a message he previously started, called "The Practical Value of Integrity". It’s a challenge to take an honest look at ourselves and make sure we’re living what we believe.

It’s all too easy to point the finger at public figures who claim to believe one way, but live another.  But before we go pointing the finger, Jesus asked us to take another look at ourselves.  Are we committed to a life of integrity?  On this edition of Focal Point, Mike Fabarez talks about closing the gap between what we preach and what we practice.
