Pastor Mike Fabarez

Almost a Christian Part 2a

April 1, 2011
If you’ve ever studied Hebrews six before, perhaps you were left with a few questions. At first glance, it may appear to some to be saying that someone can actually lose their salvation, and some do teach that today. Let’s take it a step further: maybe you’re fearful of losing your own salvation? Today on Focal Point, Pastor Mike Fabarez takes a closer look at spiritual defection. As you’ll soon see, real faith endures to the end. Take a careful look in the mirror as we present part two of “Almost a Christian.”

Pastor Mike Fabarez is in series called, “Almost a Christian.” As the name implies, there are those living today who fall into the category of almost a Christian. Maybe you can think of someone in your own life that perhaps walked an aisle, prayed a prayer and claims to be a Christian. But you sure wouldn’t know it by the life they are now living. What are we to make of this, and how do we really know if they are a Christian or not? Let’s not only look at the lives of others, but in the mirror as well, to see if we’re an almost Christian. Mike helps us make sure we don’t miss Christ amid the benefits of church.

Hebrews six has long been discussed, analyzed, and some have drawn wrong conclusions after studying it. Today we begin a series framed around it. Here on Focal Point, we enter into a series called, “Almost a Christian,” and it’s designed to reveal the difference between an almost Christian and the authentic. What a tragedy it would be to think you’re in the family of God, only to find out on judgment day that you were almost a Christian. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen to us. Pastor Mike Fabarez has us carefully consider if we’re married to, or merely dating, Christ.

When it comes to what lies beyond this life, there is a lot that we just don’t know!  With that said, God does tell us some important things about the future, and what’s on the horizon. We’ll take a look at a couple of them today on Focal Point. Pastor Mike Fabarez is going through Hebrews right now. Our present series is called, “Drink Your Milk,” and as the name implies, we’re being encouraged to get some of the basics of Christianity mastered. The basics Mike will focus on today have to do with what happens beyond this life.

Maybe there are some things regarding the end times that are unclear in your mind? You're definitely not alone!  We hope to clear up some of the confusion for you today. Today and tomorrow, Pastor Mike Fabarez will wrap up his series, “Drink Your Milk.” In Hebrews six, we’ve slowed down to consider a few basics of the Christian life that Mike has stressed we need to get down before going on to anything else. Today we look ahead to the future and receive an exciting study on what happens beyond this life.

Those of you who were involved in athletics growing up may have spent a considerable amount of time on the bench or sidelines. Oh the joy though, when the coach calls your number and says, “Get in the game!” Perhaps that’s exactly what you need to hear from the Lord today on Focal Point? Recently we’ve discussed our position in Christ. If we’re right with God, we’ve been justified. Once that’s taken care of, we ought to become increasingly holy and useful to God. There’s no sitting on the bench when it comes to the Christian life. We’re all to be in the game, and doing what the coach calls us to do.

How’s your health these days? We’re accustomed to asking that of our friends and family, but today we’ll take that question into the spiritual realm. So we might say, how’s our spiritual health doing? That really should be our primary concern. Pastor Mike Fabarez is in the middle of his series called, “Drink Your Milk,” and essentially we’re receiving a course on the basics of Christianity. We’re in Hebrews six today on Focal Point where our position and progress in the Christian life is in clear view.

Repentance and faith... Scripture teaches us that’s what it takes to get into the family of God. However, there are quite a few myths floating around today that lead people to believe otherwise. Maybe you’ve bought into one or more of them? Last time, we looked at a few myths about repentance, and now today, Pastor Mike Fabarez has us consider a few myths that have to do with faith. We’re referring to it as a crash course in repentance and faith.

Could you imagine taking calculus in Kindergarten, before you’ve taken any basic math? That would be foolish obviously. Today on Focal Point, Pastor Mike Fabarez shows us that there are a number of basics in the Christian life we need to get down first before we go move on to the meat. If you had parents who were concerned about your calcium intake, no doubt you heard them say, “Drink your milk!” That’s sort of what the writer of Hebrews is going to tell us in this chapter. Except milk in this case has to do with the basics of the message of the Gospel.

No doubt you remember the food pyramid in your health class in school that depicts what a healthy balanced diet looks like. From the bread and cereals group at the base, right on up to the fats, oils and sweets at the top. We all know the value of a good diet and a lot of exercise! We’re really not here today to make you feel guilty for not eating or exercising properly, but we do want to encourage you to shoot for a better spiritual diet and more spiritual exercise today on Focal Point. And that’s far more important than our physical health. Yet few Christians are where they should be in relation to their spiritual age.

There’s a story of a man, after 25 years with one company, was still doing the same old job and drawing the same salary. Finally he went to his boss and told him he felt he had been neglected. “After all,” he said, “I’ve had a quarter of a century of experience.” “My dear fellow,” sighed the boss, “you haven’t had a quarter of a century of experience, you’ve had one experience for a quarter of a century.” Sadly that could be said of countless Christians. Today on Focal Point, we not only consider how old we are spiritually but what our growth looks like in relation to that age. Pastor Mike Fabarez says we should care about the calendar, because God does!
