Paul is well aware of the fact that in no other area of life is corruption more possible than in the handling of money. Recall, for instance, his solemn words to Timothy about the love of money in 1 Timothy 6:9-10: “But they that desire to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” While the gaining of money can be a curse to the Christian, so can the giving of money; hence the need for the ethics of giving.
