What were the effects of the First Great Awakening and why are they important for us today? One of the effects is that it moved the country toward a national identity. Also, it released people from the oppressive religious denominations. This new found freedom prepared the children of the revivalists for the mentality necessary to found the new nation. This is the movement that shaped the minds of the Founding Fathers.
