In the midst of world turmoil, there is a time of the year that reminds a great portion of the population on earth about peace, joy, love and giving and that is the spirit of Christmas. On the other hand, there’s no denial that it also stirs up controversies, unhappiness, greed, hate, dissatisfaction and many other ill wills. And let us not forget the many discussions within Christianity related to the Christmas celebration. So, what is the missing link between these two extremes?

We live in a moral universe, and we need to understand that the moral judgment of God is a reality in the present and in the final judgment. God’s morality rules the universe, heaven, and hell. We cannot escape from this reality. We choose which life we want for the here and now and for all eternity.

Humans are conscious that they need social salvation, but man cannot save humanity. However, in Christ we can impact our world for the better because we become a new creation with the ability to do the God-kind of good works that do benefit humanity in ways that truly count. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV).

God created Adam and Eve as free moral agents, not as slaves or puppets. But freedom doesn’t mean that you can do what you want without consequences. What then was the reason for the tree of knowledge of good and evil? Why the prohibition? As we analyze this we must not lose sight of the fact that God will never commit evil; His moral nature is consistence with His character.

The only moral boundary that matters is God’s law and order. The moment our first earthly parents were created they received the cultural commission to take care of the created order, they received one moral law to be observed and their failure to comply came with grave consequences.

Humans were created moral beings, same as God, and they have total dependence upon the revealed truth of God to know how to do what is right. The biblical worldview is the only one that offers answers to the most complex problems of human existence, such as how the universe came into existence and what is its purpose. Why planet Earth is the only place for people to exist and then exit into the next life.

There is a trend that is being taught to our children and society as a whole that being a citizen it is not exceptional. The true concept of citizen has been lost and devalued. During the times of Greece and Rome to be a citizen was a title of great honor. We must keep in mind that with honor comes responsibility. Robert Kennedy said, "...today, as never before in the free world, responsibility is the greatest right of citizenship and service is the greatest of freedom's privileges."

A correct thanksgiving tradition began dating back beyond the Pilgrims and Puritans, all the way back to thousands of years into the history of the Hebrew people. The Bible reveals what the practice of thanksgiving meant to the children of Israel. Thanksgiving was a time of great celebration with fasting and feasting to praise God; expressed with songs and great joy. In modern Israel, some locations have this burst of joyful celebration even in the streets. Yes, the Bible has many instances of calling people for a celebration, but also for deep national soul-searching.

Initially, not all evil manifests in a recognizable way. Why is that you might ask? Remember Eve’s temptation and the outcome of her yielding to it? Remember Jesus’ temptations? Evil seldom looks like something to be rejected; rather it appeals to the senses. Evil is eye-catching, desirable, and appears to be legitimate therefore enticing people to fall into its traps. But we have victory through Christ and God did not choose us in Christ to be observers or participants of a decadent culture, rather to be transformers of that culture.

Believers in Christ must be strong in the Lord’s might and how to effectively use His power in every battle to win the war. Remember we were saved from the grip of Satan’s ideas and culture and accepted not only God’s life but we sided with Him just like Jesus did, to fight, expose and unmask Satan’s lies. If God’s people are going to succeed, then they must put on the whole armor of God.
