Something to Think About After Thanksgiving

November 28, 2008
Another Thanksgiving is behind us and we move forward with the challenges that await us. We want to invite you to meditate where we are after Thanksgiving. We do not know what trials you may be facing or how disillusioned you may be with the entire pessimistic and dreary outlook of the direction government is headed and even the lack of confidence in the church. We have been here before and God has answers for us if we only trust Him.

In these times of uncertainty, we would do well to remember why we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in America. A superficial celebration will only sink us deeper into despair as a people and cause us to continue on this detour of destruction. Do we have real reasons to be thankful?

Many in the Christian community consider the 20th century the greatest in Christian growth in the world as millions professed faith in Christ Jesus. The downside is that those professions of faith did not translate into cultural change. How are we to interpret this? What is missing?

Cultural pessimism greatly increased at the end of the 20th century when modernism and postmodernism failed. The church was not immune to the pessimism that was predominant in the 20 century and has carried on into the 21st. However, Christians who understand the biblical worldview have no room in their minds to dwell in pessimism and here’s why: the apostle Paul educated the early Christians on the importance and significance of the person which was born again in Christ Jesus and was to become part of the collective corporate life of the church. No one should be ignored.

—George Washington, First Inaugural Address, April 30, 1789 "The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained." 219 years after Washington made that statement we have a better understanding of his words, that is of course, if we are honest enough to acknowledge the true condition of this country.

As Christians move forward they must keep in mind that the cultural war is going to be won in the battlefield of ideas and they need to prepare without fear to challenge the ideas of the humanistic religions that dominates most of the world. The time is right for God’s ideas to once again flourish in a very powerful way.

We cannot continue to accept the defeatist mentality that is predominant in most of Christianity. The church cannot be silent forever and not speak against all the evils that produce immorality and corruption. We must hold Christian leadership accountable for their lack of thorough teaching and deficient social action.

It is this truth of Jesus' authority that motivated his disciples and all other believers to go to the different nations up until this present time. This truth also causes the personal transformation by the power of the Spirit of God and moves us to carry on the commands of God; to disciple nations. It was, is and always will be a tremendous excitement for the simple fact that God chooses to accomplish great things through his people.

Negativism, pessimism and the sky is falling mentality should never be part of a true Biblical Christian. The fact that Christ conquered sin at the across, death when he rose from the grave and ascended into heaven should be enough motivation for Christians to think about life and the world in a more positive, optimistic and hopeful way.

Prior to the elections many churches and Christian organizations were encouraging Christians to pray for the 2008 election, asking God not to allow the extreme left to win the presidency, the U.S. Congress, state Congress, and some governorships. God denied those requests. Now it’s time to understand why God denied us those prayers and why he answered in a much different way.

In closing this topic “the family is the mirror of the nation” there is so much that we could have covered considering the many cultural battles we are facing in this time of humanistic tyranny; it is a reminder that we have to understand God’s Ministry to individuals, families and political action. In this series we pointed out how the Scriptures and only the Scriptures give us clear direction for effective action.

About The Future of America

We want to help restore America's original foundation in biblical Christian principles which made it the most powerful and prosperous nation in the world in a relatively short time but America has not reached it full potential. Ideas have consequences and they are passed on from generation to generation. To eradicate error, the moral and ethical principles of the Bible must be firmly established in the hearts and minds of each individual. If America is going to survive, its citizens must become re-acquainted with its history, heritage and biblical immovable principles and apply them once again to all areas of life. We hope this program will inspire and challenge you so together we can fulfill our responsibility before God and country to make the difference for our generation many generations to come.
