Jesus' Rejection of Institutionalized Welfare, Part 4

January 14, 2014
Why did Jesus reject the people when they sought him out to be fed again? Because it is never God's design for us to be dependent on or prioritize material things above eternal things. Neither is He in favor of anything that will make us dependent on men. Jesus' action had nothing to do with lack of compassion for the needy but rather to point them in the right direction of eternal principles.

Jesus reminded the Jews, who wanted to make Him king to have all their needs met that they were misinterpreting and mistaking His miraculous power with a welfare system that is totally contrary to God’s blueprint for human development and wellbeing. They should have known better and realized that Jesus was manifesting a dimension that is superior to any other world system due to God’s covenant and the horrible social consequences that come from breaking or violating that covenant.

Jesus rejected thousands of people who sought him for welfare after he had fed the five thousand: John 6:14-15, 26, "When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!” Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself --- Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.

The misconception of Jesus’ unconditional support for those in need is highly monopolized by ulterior motives and ignorance. Poverty and hunger, among other human needs, have been used to promote desired goals for both good and evil. Everyone likes to use Jesus’ statement in Matthew 25: 35-40 for alleviating human need and suffering, but, is it being properly interpreted and applied?

You may be asking where does my hope lie for the future? My answer to that is God always brings down the foolishness of man and exalts His wisdom through His people. Regardless of the evil things we face today and tomorrow, or how bad and destructive the future turns out to be, this I know, I cannot be pessimistic towards the future because God controls the future!

With God all things work together for good even those that short circuit in our mind and understanding and we say, "How could God work this out for my good?" In Jeremiah 29:7 as the Jews were going into slavery he told them what to do: "Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”  With God there is no room for pessimism even in the most dire circumstances.

The prophet or social reformer Jeremiah lived during the most crucial period of Judah's existence as a kingdom. He saw the destruction of Jerusalem and the holy Temple, after he had persistently warned his people to repair their ways before it was too late. Inspite of the warning, Jeremiah was also instructed to bring them courage and hope, and to induce many of them to return to their native land because God still had plans for them.  God will never abandon those He loves and who love Him back.

If we understand the past, present and future and who controls history we can never be pessimistic about what lies ahead. God has the blueprint for every person, family, community, state, and nation. Ignoring God’s blueprint always brings social collapse; there are no exceptions to this rule. God’s blueprint is the full counsel of His Word, the Bible.

When I make the declaration of not being pessimistic of the future is because my positive side of viewing things does not allow for a pessimistic view of what lies ahead. My positivism does not rely on wishful thinking but on solid historical facts of where things always end up and where history is moving in spite of the looming destruction before us.

For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:11-13.

People nowadays are very stressed.  Life is coming at all of us hard in every direction.  How we face life and with what understanding makes all the difference on how accomplished and in control we are going to be.  The learning curve of life is constant and never ending until we are taken from this world.  How we understand salvation is vitally important.

About The Future of America

We want to help restore America's original foundation in biblical Christian principles which made it the most powerful and prosperous nation in the world in a relatively short time but America has not reached it full potential. Ideas have consequences and they are passed on from generation to generation. To eradicate error, the moral and ethical principles of the Bible must be firmly established in the hearts and minds of each individual. If America is going to survive, its citizens must become re-acquainted with its history, heritage and biblical immovable principles and apply them once again to all areas of life. We hope this program will inspire and challenge you so together we can fulfill our responsibility before God and country to make the difference for our generation many generations to come.
