“The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men.” –Samuel Adams- (father of the American Revolution) In every political election, Christians must not remain neutral; neutrality is non-existent, it is a myth. A Christian is commanded, by God’s Word, to support and vote for those that are committed to the biblical principles of civil government. So, what do we do when candidates in the general election do not meet God’s requirements?

Given the animosity against God and Christianity today you would never know that in the past any one who did not adhere to Christian values was not elected into public office. John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, said the following regarding Christian leadership:“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

The Pilgrims and the Puritans truly set the foundation for what became the United States of America. In 1630 the second wave of Puritan migrants came to these shores led by the pastor leader and lawyer John Winthrop. The Pilgrim population grew and pursued their vision of a nation governed by God according to His revealed Word; they understood the rule of Jesus Christ as encompassing all aspects of culture. There were no areas considered to be secular, everything they did was unto the Lord and everything was sacred from work to leisure. Next time you hear someone criticizing godly Christians as being legalistic like the Puritans, keep in mind that the Pilgrims and Puritans engaged in enjoying reading of books, making music, drinking beer and rum, swimming, ice skating, hunting, fishing, archery, and bowling. All activities were done decent and in order as not to be offenders of God and His moral law. Do you long for that America again? Be careful who you vote for.

What happened to the Babylonian empire? It collapsed just like other nations before them and after them. The moral foundation of society is the most important; if morality is being determined by man their collapse is guaranteed and future generations become a testimony to their failure. As we can see, without the Bible it is impossible to make sense of life in all social institutions, this definitely includes civil government. It is imperative that we ascertain the beliefs of the ones we put at the helm of our nation.

Electing the right people to office is always important. However, the problem becomes in defining who are the right people and according to whom? During the primaries all political parties offer choices, and people have to select the one main candidate for the opposition. Then comes the general election were the ideologically divided county, city, state and federal must take its stand. Every voter has a story on how the decision was made to cast his or her vote the way they did. The severe condition of the nation reveals the choices made have not been the right ones, and the overwhelming majority has a problem knowing what is right from what is wrong.

Politics are a nasty business when they are not based upon God’s moral absolutes, this is why Christians are the only ones that can rebuild the foundations that have been destroyed by past generations. This rebuilding is only done with the accurate Biblical understanding of government, and I’m not talking about civil government but self-government, that is where everything begins. Biblical Christians know we don’t promote the top-down form of civil governments to solve all social problems as the Left ideology promotes. We are bearers of the only Good News that changes the heart of humans one person at a time.

Cultural engagement is not an option for God’s people, we either obey or rebel, those are our only two options. God’s great plan for humanity doesn’t stop due to the corruption of world conditions; He still commissions us to disciple the nations in all areas of life and institutions, He commissions us to teach that Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth, and this means no other authority can ever succeed. We are to remind people that He is with every generation of obedient disciples to carry out God’s plan. God will never change His plan of redemption.

God’s revealed truth is for us to understand His divine plan and will for the world, and to be properly engaged to make it a better place. He commands us to be salt and light, which means total engagement to influence culture in a way that evil is forcefully confronted and exposed for what it is and restrict it from controlling society.

Do you think it matters how you vote or if you refuse to engage in the political process? People elect individuals to run the county, city, state, and federal governments; the beliefs of those elected will influence them and if the biblical worldview is not the solid foundation in their lives and in their thinking, you can expect they will make faulty decisions, and, here we are.

Jesus was not a nationalist Jew nor identified with the Roman Empire as the right social fit. Nonetheless, He was highly involved in every aspect to make life better. In our times, one thing is certain; Jesus would not be a Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian or member of any other political party. However, that would not stop him from working to make life conform to God’s government in all areas of life and its social institutions.

Jesus’ worldview is the same as God the Father. Ours should not be different. Let us always keep in mind that at the beginning of His public life Jesus proclaimed the arrival of the Kingdom of God and all the way to his crucifixion he manifested God's Kingdom in practical life. After his resurrection for the next forty days He continued teaching about the Kingdom of God. The power of His resurrection in our lives is to manifest solutions to all areas of God's worldview.
