Amazing Letter
by Berni Dymet
John 6:1-14 Feeding of the Five Thousand. After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, also called the Sea of Tiberias.....
I get a lot of letters from people. Most of them are encouraging. Some of them aren't and some of them - are downright scary. Had a long letter the other day from a man who'd heard me talking about giving to the poor - and he wrote to say - well, in his opinion, Christians shouldn't bother feeding the heathen, they should only feed God's people, other Christians.
I'd love to take him to some of the poverty stricken villages I've walked through in India - places where it's all I can do not to weep when I see their extreme poverty.
Not sure if you know the story - but there are a few times when Jesus miraculously fed large crowds. Sometimes it was a Jewish crowd and other times - on the gentile side of the Sea of Tiberias it was gentiles.
That was a radical thing to do - because in the 1st Century, Jews by and large thought that God was only for them, not the gentiles.
There's only one way to put this - they were wrong!
