"Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 5:20
In considering this text we first see the duty declared. The apostle Paul gives frequent admonitions in his writings to give thanks. There are various ways of expressing our thanks to God — in song, in prayer, by declaration, and by obedience. It's indeed an important part of Christian life to continually give thanks to God.
We then see the scope revealed. We're to give thanks for the things the Lord has done for us, for all the things He has promised, and for His daily mercies.
Finally we note the method described. We're to give thanks to the Father, acknowledging He provides for us, and its to be done in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The only acceptable way to give thanks to the Father is through His Son Jesus Christ.
In this Thanksgiving season, may we stir our hearts to give thanks always for all things.
