“And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man which was blind from his birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:1-2).
In this passage of Scripture we learn an important lesson about suffering.
The disciples were interested in knowing why this man was born blind. They speculated it might have been because of the sin of his parents. But Jesus informs them it was “that the works of God should be made manifest in him” (verse 3).
The idea that suffering would be designed to bring glory to God is a concept foreign to popular thinking, but it is a principle clearly taught in God’s Word.
