“Let all bitterness… be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:30-32).
In looking at a bitter spirit, we first describe the evidences of it. Often the person who is harboring bitterness in their heart is reluctant to admit it, so we look at some of the characteristics which may reveal as bitter spirit.
We then consider the causes of it. Many different things can be the underlying cause but we consider jealousy as well as being treated unfairly as two factors which may contribute to it.
Next we describe the result of it. There are physical problems as well as spiritual problems which can be the result of bitterness.
Finally we consider the cure of it. The good news is that bitterness is not fatal. Like any other sin and can be forgiven and overcome by the grace of God.
