References: Ephesians 2

Ephesians not only shows us what we were before Christ, but what we gain because we're in Christ. God didn't leave us worthless and hopeless in sin, but He acted on our behalf. Why? Because of the richness of God's grace. He is rich in mercy (lovingkindness or compassion), working out His love towards us even though we don't deserve it. He is rich in love, a timeless, gracious, giving love, demonstrated in the sacrifice of Jesus. He is rich in grace, dealing favorably with undeserving people and raising us from spiritual death to life. And He is rich in kindness, doing good to us in ways beyond our imagination.
