God's Answer to Problems in Times Like These
Sunday, August 23, 2009
During these early years of the 21st century, we have faced overwhelming problems that appear to have no answer. There seems to be no end to the personal and social ills that plague us. Is there no place we can turn for relief?
BROADCAST ARCHIVES
An overwhelming majority of people today believe that they will go to heaven. Some even believe that one day all people of all time will dwell in the presence of God, and they claim to have Scriptural support for this theory. But do they?

For almost a millennium, the children of Israel possessed Palestine. But because of their disobedience, they were taken away into captivity. That was the beginning of a new period in which Jerusalem would be "trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled."

The neglect of prayer has affected all areas of the Christian's personal life and the total life of the church. That is why we need to see men like Daniel as our models for prayer.

God's Calendar for Israel
10/25/2009 - Sunday
With every wind of change in the news there are those who attempt to use events to determine the exact date that the Lord will return for the church. Although the day and hour of Christ's return is unknowable, there is a very precise prophetic calendar in Scripture.

Throughout history, we have venerated and highly esteemed those who - in the midst of temptation, turmoil, trials and troubles - have stayed the course and followed God, unmoved by the opposition they faced. Daniel is one such man.

Charge It!
10/11/2009 - Sunday
Credit itself is not good or bad; it's a tool you can control for good or which can control you when the debt becomes too overwhelming. Paul uses another kind of credit when dealing with reconciliation between a slave and his master.

Grace in Three Time Zones
10/4/2009 - Sunday
One of the most popular hymns of all times is "Amazing Grace." Perhaps the reason is that we can all identify with the hopeless condition of the lost and the amazing grace of God that is able to save the most wretched soul. But how is God's grace revealed in the Scriptures?

During the Millennium there will be built a new temple with a return to the sacrificial system. But if Christ's death on the cross removed the need for sacrifices for sins, why is there a return to the sacrificial system during the Millennium?

Dead Bones in Death Valley
9/20/2009 - Sunday
Death Valley, California, was given its name by a group of pioneers who crossed its desolate desert environment in 1849. Long before those pioneers crossed the desert of Death Valley, a man of God was brought to a similar location where death and desolation were in evidence.

Angels with Dirty Faces
9/13/2009 - Sunday
The most powerful, beautiful, and awesome angel of all is also the archenemy of mankind. He is fearful and very dangerous, and his name is Satan.

In the ancient Near East, the first line of defense was to build a wall around a city. But they also needed to know if an enemy was approaching, so they put watchmen on the wall. The Scriptures take that image and make application for our role in the world as Christians.

When the nation of Judah was on their way into captivity, God raised up three men to be his witnesses. One of them was Ezekiel who prophesied to the captives in Babylon through some extraordinary and terrifying visions.

During these early years of the 21st century, we have faced overwhelming problems that appear to have no answer. There seems to be no end to the personal and social ills that plague us. Is there no place we can turn for relief?

The source of most societal problems can be traced to difficulties in the home - adultery, divorce, abuse, teenage rebellion, pornography, and the list goes on. But what are the answers to these troubles?

What will you say when you come to the end of your life's journey? Will you look back at all your accomplishments or express gratitude for those who impacted your life for good? Is there something even more important to speak about at that time?

There are issues in the church today that have been debated for decades and which generate a lot of heat, but no light. One such issue is the role of women in the church.

As the day of Christ's death drew near, His burden for Jerusalem grew heavy in His heart. But Jesus was not the only man to weep over Jerusalem, for there was a man whom God used to send His final message of judgment to the people of Judah.

When God spoke through His prophets, He had them use real life experiences or even act out their messages. Hosea was told to marry a prostitute, Ezekiel dug through a wall in his house, and Joel used a locust storm to make his point. And in Jeremiah's prophecy we find one of the most familiar prophetic illustrations of all.

Among the noise and activity of life in a busy world, it can be difficult to find a quiet spot away from the telephones, televisions, cars, sirens, and many other distractions. But believers can find a sanctuary of the soul.

If you had to choose a man to give a harsh message to an unresponsive and hostile audience, would you pick someone with tender emotions who would likely cry about the message he had to deliver? That's the kind of man God chose to bring a tough message to His people.
