What exactly is a miracle? C.S. Lewis defined it as "an interference with nature by a supernatural power." The miracles of Jesus were clear, public, long-lasting, and not in dispute, even by His enemies. Those miracles testify to His being the Son of God, and were performed not to amaze, but rather, to teach. In today's message we will look at one of those dramatic miracles.

The Sea of Galilee was home base for the disciples Jesus first called. No doubt about it, they knew fishing very well. So when their new master told them where to toss their nets, it took unusual grace to do as they were asked. Their obedience was rewarded handsomely when those full nets almost broke. Today we look at a lesson for disciples then and now.
Series: Come and See Jesus
Many people work their entire lives, hoping that someday they'll have a higher calling than the drudgery of a daily job. When Jesus called Simon and Andrew away from their fishing nets, He said they would become fishers of men. For these two, that higher calling meant leaving their boats behind. Do we hear the higher calling of Christ? Are we willing to pay the price to follow it?
Series: Come and See Jesus
Would you leave a lifetime job and head into the financial unknown if a man walked up to you and said, "Come and follow Me?" To those who became His disciples, the call of Jesus was clear and unambiguous. And their response was to immediately leave their nets behind. Are we as quick to heed the call of Christ? If not, perhaps today's broadcast is tailor-made for each of us.

"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," people say. Many of us seek immediate gain rather than long-term benefit. Some of us want our comforts and happiness more than we want to do the will of God. By denying Himself for forty days in the wilderness, Jesus showed us that there's a higher purpose in life than feeling good and getting what we want.
Series: Come and See Jesus
During Hurricane Katrina, many people stole food in their distress. Illegal? Yes. But OK under the circumstances? These situations are tougher in real life than they are in theory. Jesus had not eaten for forty days when Satan said, "make these stones into bread." Temptations are wanting to fulfill legitimate desires in a way God does not intend.
Series: Come and See Jesus
When you travel east from Jerusalem, you find yourself in a barren wilderness. Rocks are everywhere, water is scarce. Here, Jesus was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan. Weakened by hunger and thirst, the Son of God faced His enemy, and taught us how to face that same enemy. In today's message we trace the story of forty tough days in the life of Christ.

When Jesus sought out John to be baptized in the river Jordan, He was creating a picture for all who would follow Him... That picture was one that predicted His coming atoning death and God's power in bringing Him back from the grave. Baptism is a public display of our belief in a life after death. Today: final lessons we can take home from the baptism of Christ.
Series: Come and See Jesus
Even today, many people go to the river Jordan to be baptized where their Lord was baptized. Why do they go? They want to identify themselves as fully as possible with Jesus, who submitted to baptism "to fulfill all righteousness." Today: we explore the reasons for the baptism of Jesus, and why it's important for us to follow Him in this way.
Series: Come and See Jesus
Without political power or military assets, Jesus altered the direction of history, pleasing God by living a perfect life... God's approval was clear when a voice thundered from heaven, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." This took place on the occasion of Jesus' baptism in the river Jordan. Today: a look at that baptism, and what it means.

Like them, we find ways to manipulate each other to meet our own needs, not realizing that meeting our mate's needs is the real key to marital happiness. Feelings of rejection set in, as Adam and Eve's story repeats again and again down through history.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
Despite counseling, divorce marks the end of half of American marriages, leaving behind incalculable damage... When the family unit breaks down, culture itself breaks down. Communication breakdowns affect nearly every marriage at one time or another, and this began quite early in history. In fact, we have record of it in the Garden of Eden. Today: a look at the damage sin can do.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
Endangered species: some environmental activists fret about the fate of the snail darter, or, perhaps the spotted owl... But the real endangered species is the family. Fractured, broken, stressed, dysfunctional...all these words describe a crisis in the most basic unit of society...a crisis that begins when marriages fail. Today: a candid look at the causes of these failures.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
Left to ourselves, we're basically narcissistic. We'd much rather meet our own needs than meet the needs of others. Enter marriage. In matrimony, two people have to care for each other. This combats the inherent selfishness we all share. In many ways, marriage is a crucible in which character is forged, and where happiness is found in pleasing your mate, not yourself.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
Anyone who thinks that marriage is the magic door to happiness might want to note that fully half of all marriages fail today... The resulting carnage of divorce and shattered families leaves a trail of dysfunction for generations. God intended marriage to develop character, not just fulfill sensual desire. Those who opt out of their marriages miss many rewards. Today: what those rewards are.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
When she comes down the aisle, she's the picture of perfection. And he's Prince Charming in a black tuxedo... On their wedding day, few starry-eyed couples realize the searchlight that their marriage will be in revealing the character flaws they both have. Today: more on the thesis that being happy is not the main idea for marriage, as far as God is concerned.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
Walk down the aisle, say "I do," cut the cake, toss the bouquet. Marriage: it's the way to happiness...or, is it? There's good evidence in the Bible that marriage is designed more to develop character than to insure a lifetime of bliss. When the rough spots come, and they will, what are couples to take from those experiences? Today: a frank dose of married reality.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
The central idea of the marriage vow is this: you and your mate pledge that sexual activity is restricted to the two of you... No old flames...no flings...no other partners. To violate this destroys the trust that a working marriage requires, as well as violating the commands of the God who designed marriage in the first place. Today: why keeping your vows is crucial if your marriage is to make it.
Series: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
Many marriages are on shaky ground. Some see their mates like car models...trade them in when a better one comes along... The underlying issue is covetousness...wanting what you don't have. The Bible has clear directions for making marriages last, and today, we'll see why living a life of love, purity and honor is the only way to insure a long and satisfying marriage.
