The Gift Of Love
Sunday, May 11, 2008
The songwriter wrote, "I can't live in a world without love." How true that is. Love is something no one can live without...feeling that someone, somewhere, cares for us. Love comes in several flavors, and today we will see the contrast between human and divine love, and how as believers, we can learn to share the love of God with those around us.

"Do I really matter?" Many people feel as if their lives are of no importance, like they cannot make any real difference in a world gone topsy-turvy. Today, you will hear why a believer in Christ should be the last person to feel insignificant. Stay with us as we explore another of the gifts you cannot live without.
Series: The Gifts You Can't Live Without
When it comes right down to it, what really satisfies people is not a new car, a new home theater system or even a new computer. What gives us fulfillment is being part of something bigger than ourselves. Getting connected in this way is another of the gifts we cannot live without, as explained by Dr. Lutzer.
Series: The Gifts You Can't Live Without
Most of us are grateful when we receive gifts...and we should be. While many gifts we get are enjoyable, most are not critical to our lives. But, did you know that there are at least four gifts we cannot live without...gifts that forge our character, outlook and self-image? Today we begin a series on those four gifts, as outlined by Dr. Lutzer.

Here is something to ponder: is the evangelical boat taking on water? Some see the world seeping into the church at such a rate that soon there will be little visible difference. How can Christians impact a culture in which they are no longer different? These are the questions Dr. Lutzer poses, and answers, on today's broadcast.
There are many voices that oppose the message of the gospel, and they are getting louder all the time. Many authors are writing books promising that you can simply think your way to happiness, prosperity and health, and that looking to God for your supply is, at best, old-fashioned. One such book caught the eye of Dr. Lutzer, and on today's program, you will hear its message soundly debunked.
Leave it to TV to splash the headline that the bones of Jesus have been found in an old box in Jerusalem. Of course, the special comes on right before Easter. Today: an expose of some bad archaeology, and a look at how the critics of Christianity are marketing their wares in the media.
Series: Slandering Jesus
If you had met the resurrected Jesus along the Emmaus road, would you have recognized Him? "Surely, yes!" you might say...but think again. Even some of His disciples did not know to Whom they were speaking. Today, join us for a look inward as we seek to make sure we personally hear the voice of the risen Son of God.
Before He entered Jerusalem on the donkey, Jesus cursed a fig tree that had not borne fruit. We might wonder "Why?" The sobering message of that event is our focus on this Palm Sunday edition of The Moody Church Hour.
All of us yearn for companionship...for fellowship with others. And the church is the ideal place to find lasting friendships. With the common bond of faith in Christ, the people of God can have a deep connection with each other that is truly life-transforming.
Series: Staying On Track
The church ought to be a lighthouse...shining brightly in a dark world. For well over one hundred years, The Moody Church has done just that. People from all walks of life have found Christ as Savior through its multiple ministries. And it is all because faithful leaders through the decades have proclaimed the gospel that transforms lives.
Series: Staying On Track
We have all heard the song that says, "Red and yellow, black and white, all are precious in His sight." Indeed, the people of God come in all colors and from all nations. The Moody Church is a place where East meets West, black meets white and the rich meet the poor. It is "a trusted place where anyone can connect with God and others."
Series: Staying On Track
Since 1864, Moody Church has faithfully proclaimed the gospel without apology. As time passes, some ministries veer from their founder's vision. But D.L. Moody's church is "Still on Track," some 144 years down the road.
Series: Staying On Track
Down through history there have been many outpourings of the Holy Spirit. Often we call these times of revival, times when new life is infused into the church and, as a result, into the world at large. It is at these times that believers are motivated to pray like never before. Today, we will spend a final visit in First Thessalonians for a look at one major effect of God's special visitation upon His people.
Series: When God Comes To Church
The church is called to understand its role in the world. Paul told the believers at Thessalonica "you are sons of light...not of darkness...therefore let us not sleep, but let us watch and be sober..." Today we will be invited to put on the helmet of "the hope of salvation" as we await the Day of the Lord.
Series: When God Comes To Church
In a day when sexual ethics have all but been abandoned, the idea of moral purity may seem quaint. But that purity is a key component of a strong church, a church whose members live lives free from the entanglements of sin, or as Paul puts it, lives lived "in sanctification and honor." Today we will hear Paul's admonition to the church at Thessalonica.
Series: When God Comes To Church
The path of a Christian's life is not strewn with roses. Affliction and trials come to all who name the name of Jesus. In fact, the Bible says we are appointed to tribulations. That was Paul's word to the church at Thessalonica in ancient Greece, and now it is his word to us today.
Series: When God Comes To Church
Left to ourselves, we tend to focus on what is best for number one, that is, us. But Jesus set an example of servant-leadership, and He expects His church to model that servanthood. Today: a look at how service to others must be the mark by which the world senses the presence of God in any local church.
Series: When God Comes To Church
Some think of the church as ancient architecture and even more ancient traditions. But the real church is the Body of Christ on earth. And that Body is alive. Infused by the power of the Holy Spirit, your church should be the vehicle through which God works in this world. Ever wonder what would happen if God came to your church?
Series: When God Comes To Church
When the present is filled with troubles and the future looks no better, many ask, "What can I do about it?" Today you will hear a challenge to do something: something that will have eternal repercussions...in your life, and the lives of those you care about.
The future is uncertain, and all of us need wisdom to make the choices sure to face us in the days ahead. Whether personal or national decisions, we dare not enter the unknown without the wisdom only God can provide. And wisdom is another of the gifts God gave to us when He sent Christ into the world.
