Hope is much more than just "crossing our fingers" and wishing for good things to come. In Pastor Steve’s message from the book of Hebrews we'll learn just what hope is and how we can keep it alive.
There are certain sins we're not to mess around with—namely the renouncing of Christ. Most of us who belong to Jesus never plan to divorce Him. God knows this and has plenty of grace and mercy to go around. Today on Life Lessons Pastor Steve finishes up his discussion on the "once saved always saved" doctrine and gives clear, biblical answers to some tough questions.
Today on Life Lessons Pastor Steve addresses a section of scripture that, in many of our study Bibles, has half a page of footnotes trying to explain what those verses mean. What do they mean? Can a person ever lose there salvation? Get ready for some clear, biblical answers to this confusing, controversial question.
Once we've been born again can we become un-born again? Is it possible for a new heart to return to old attitudes even to the point of renouncing Jesus? It's one thing to reiterate what you learn in a book. It's another thing to learn from first hand experience and then teach and comfort others who are going through similar circumstances. When the word "priest" is mentioned the picture we usually conjure up is a man in a white robe leading a church service with lots of singing. Am I right? Today Pastor Steve continues his message "Called to Be Priests" and gives us a whole new vision for what a priest looks like. And he…or she…looks a lot like you and me. Jesus is our great high Priest and we are to be his royal priesthood. Stay tuned to Life Lessons for a complete explanation on this aspect of the call on Christian’s lives.
The Old Testament remarkably foreshadows the truths that are revealed in the New Testament. In the book of Hebrews we see how the priesthood of the Old Testament, and specifically the priesthood "according to the order of Melchizedek" foreshadows Jesus, our great high priest. If you've ever wondered about how all this fits together and what it means today is your chance to find out. We'll also see how we are called to share in this calling in our own lives.
Jesus' grace is two-fold—He has come to save us and to set us free. Today on Life Lessons Pastor Steve concludes a message from the book of Hebrews called "Grace to Help." We'll see just what this grace looks like and what our role is in the whole process of being set free.
Hebrews 4:16 says we can "draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." What an amazing, jam-packed verse. Today On Life Lessons Pastor Steve is going to unpack the wondrous truth about the grace and mercy available to set us free from the sins that so easily entangle us. And, in the process, we'll be set free to confidently live the blessed life God so longs to give us.
"The issue of our salvation is based on our living faith in Jesus Christ." That is good news both for the first time we say yes to Jesus and for the hundredth time. Living faith is a process—a life-long process—that requires us to keep trusting Jesus. In the conclusion of his message on Life Lessons, "God's Two-Edged Sword," Pastor Steve gives some practical ways of how to keep our faith alive and how to have a regular time in God's Word.
The Word of God is a two-edged sword. As it cuts it reveals the true intentions of our hearts...both the good…and the bad. Today on Life Lessons, Pastor Steve looks at a question many Christians have struggled with—if God knows my every thought, have I ever gone too far and committed "the unpardonable sin", the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? The Word of God is really something. It cuts to the quick and goes deep revealing what we truly believe and love. This is some serious stuff. The righteousness which comes from God is how we are saved. Unfortunately, many people go right back to a works-based religion in following Christ. It's called legalism. Today on Life Lessons, in the conclusion of his message, "Our Sabbath Rest," Pastor Steve shows us a much better way, a way where we live by faith, trusting in Christ alone for strength, wisdom, provision, for everything. And here's the good news: we can "rest" in God's power—we don't need to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps to do what only God can do.
The fear of hell is not a good way to motivate people. But there's another extreme—to allow any and all immoral behavior because we're under grace. Today on Life Lessons Pastor Steve concludes his message, "Our Sabbath Rest," and shares how the love of God literally compels him to care for the needs of others and to bring people with him to heaven. If you've based your salvation on works, or if you've gone back to a works-based religion, be sure to stick around.
In Hebrews 4 the author warns his readers about the danger of not entering into the "Sabbath rest" God provided for His people. Does this mean we're supposed to go to church on Sunday and not do work that day? Isn't that legalistic? Aren't we free from the Old Testament Law? Today's message on Life Lessons, "Our Sabbath Rest," goes to the heart of the matter and brings clarity to how we are saved and how we are to live.
The author of Hebrews uses the Israelites as an example of how easy it is to harden our hearts when things don't go as we expect. We don't realize it or just plain forget that God's intentions are only for our good. Get ready to examine your own expectations and to be encouraged to walk by faith not by sight, even in the tough times.
Some of us were told that all would be perfect when we say yes to God and become a Christian. But when good grades, obedient children and high-paying jobs don't just drop into our laps we start to question the goodness of God and our hearts grow suspicious and even hardened. Well, here's the hard reality: a life of faith is not optional; it is required for all who wish to follow God and to maintain a tender heart in the process. Stay tuned to Life Lessons for Pastor Steve's message, "The Root of Unbelief," a message that will help us understand why people harden their hearts and how not to go down that path.
If you grew up in Sunday School you know about the Israelites wandering in the wilderness, growing angry at God and not entering the promised land. Before we start thinking, "I'd never let that happen to me", let's examine the root of their unbelief: Every time a problem arose they refused to trust God. And as their journey progressed, they grew increasingly bitter.
