To our faithful readers,
It is “Summertime” and the old song reminds us “The living is easy.” But as we read the Book of Proverbs over the next seven days we realize that all living according to the Inspired Word of God in obedience to His will is not only easy but truly a joy.
Proverbs begins immediately by telling us that: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (1:7). True wisdom is based on our knowing His Word: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One understanding (9:10).
A recurring theme and very important element of worship faithful-ness. In Jacob’s dying prophecy to his children he has a sad note to Reuben that he was unstable as water; thou shalt not excel because he committed adultery. He forfeited not only the wealth of physical inheritance but far more serious, the right to be in the line of Messiah (I Chron. 5:1).
It is no wonder the Holy Spirit led Solomon to write: The Commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: To keep thee from the evil woman. . . . whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh under-standing: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. . . . . He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter; or as a fool . . . . Her house is the way to hell (6:23-24, 32, 7:22,27).
A virtuous woman. . . . her husband doth safely trust in her. . . . Strength and honour are her clothing. . . . beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised (31:10-11, 25, 30).
As you read through Proverbs look for the many practical truths and lessons that you can apply to your life and gain wisdom. Then together, let us worship the Holy One who gives us understanding and Truth.
