• Study of the Prophets
  The prophet Jonah was called by God to take His message to the cruel and powerful kingdom of Assyria in their capital, Nineveh. Jonah felt nothing but animosity toward these enemies of Israel. 
• Out of Suffering
       We read of the continuing sharp criticisms and attacks by Job’s friends on his integrity and loyalty to God because they saw his suffering as the result of some evil in his life. All the while Job continues in his misery and wretchedness which he cannot understand. But God’s purpose was being fulfilled. Job was enduring the refining fires of God by which he proved Satan was a liar. In spite of his agony day after day, Job never cursed God and he could also say: He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold (23:10). 
• True Strength
       Have you ever wondered what God would say about you? In this week’s reading we see the Lord testifying about Job. It is amazing to read what Almighty God says to Satan about His faithful servant. Hast thou considered my servant Job . . . a perfect and an upright man, one that . . . escheweth evil? (1:8). It would be great if He could say that about you and me.
• Special Favor
  Although the Lord has put him in a position of great trust, He does not think of this position of cup bearer to the king as something to cling to. He thinks of his people and their discouraging circumstances.
• Learning from Kings
  The forty year reign of King Solomon ends with today’s reading. Within days following Solomon’s death the nation splits into the northern and southern kingdoms. The divinely ordained historical events experienced by these people, chosen by God as His, continues as we read carefully to be able to understand and learn from their victories and failures.
