Faith's Foothold

Dr. James Boice

In this section of the Gospel of John, Jesus is turning to those who the Father has given him and teaching them. Dr. Boice deviates from a strict verse-by-verse exposition to deal with particularly important themes in greater depth. The clearest example is the study of John 11:35, "Jesus wept". In a similar manner, he has devoted six messages each to the themes of the Good Shepherd and suffering and death.

Psalm 118:8-9 — Confidence in the Lord Is Well Placed, Part 1

Lloyd Pulley

Remember the classic movie The Sting, with Paul Newman and Robert Redford? It’s the story of two con men who take a guy for half a million dollars. The word “con” in con men is derived from the word “confidence”. You see, in order to take someone for big bucks, you have to gain his confidence first. Confidence is the subject today on Bridging the Gap, but we’re going to be talking about confidence that’s well placed — confidence in the Lord!

The Spirit's Ministry in the Early Church

Gil Rugh

Understanding this historical transition of the Holy Spirit's ministry from being focused on the nation of Israel to the whole world is critical for understanding the rest of the New Testament. The Spirit's coming brought new and additional revelation for the new era that was beginning, known as the Church Age.

The Holy Spirit's ministry to the different groups was made evident by signs, miracles, and the ability to speak in different languages. The Spirit ministered through the apostles to the Samaritans, the Gentiles, the disciples of John the Baptist, as well as to the Jews. As a result, all four groups were solidified by the teaching of the apostles, under one Spirit's ministry, thus unifying the Church.

Dave Wyrtzen

Imagine you’re on death row in Huntsville, Texas. You’re guilty of a capital offense and that night you face the lethal injection. But instead of your last meal, the cell is unlocked. You’re handed a governor’s pardon. Instead of eating surrounded with guards, you eat free surrounded with your closest friends. Imagine the relief, the joy, the thankfulness. Now turn to Psalm 51 and listen to this week’s Truth Encounter.

Ed Young

In life, there are things that seem to contradict themselves, statements that seem to say one thing but communicate another. We call them paradoxes. In this powerful Easter message, Ed Young takes a look at the paradoxes surrounding Easter. And he reminds us that the greatest contradictions in the world are the very things that lead us to the greatest reality - the reality of a relationship with God!

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

This week we continue the study we began last week with Dr. Lloyd-Jones on the importance of understanding clearly not only how we are saved, but how that salvation is applied directly to us. Today's sermon from Ephesians 1:11-14 takes us right to the heart of the matter and is entitled, "Heard, Believed, Trusted".

Mark Hamby

Mary is falsely accused of stealing, and the penalty is death. She had always been taught that it is better to die for the truth than to live for a lie-for the worst pillow to sleep on is the pillow of a guilty conscience. Will the darkest and most dreadful night help Mary find God for herself or will she live in the shadow of a faith that is not her own? This is a story that will cause you to shed a tear or two and at the same time cultivate a hope that will never disappoint!

Pastor Dick Woodward

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life . . . But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” This passage addresses anxiety, but at its core it is really teaching about our priorities. When we worry, we are showing what we value and how much we trust God to care for us. When God is our true priority, other values will hold the proper place in our hearts.
